Hi all,

I came home to find my Windows 7 "Media Centre" PC upgraded itself to Windows 10.

Another friend of mine told me the same thing, his PC also upgraded itself and he swears he didn't do the upgrade - same as me.

How many others has this happened too? I'm just curious.

Just about everyone with WIN 7 and WIN 8/8.1 who do not pay attention to the messages they get on their screens when they switch their PCs on ......

You should have read everything on the screen to see where to click to avoid the upgrade

Hi there, anyone know when you can remove the usb stick during the Windows 10 upgrade process. Trying to speedup upgrade of 13 computers with 5 memory sticks.

No idea. I have always left the USB stick in until the upgrade is complete ...... just before the first restart is called for.

Ok, we done some experimenting. We unplugged a USB after "the Wheel install" finished (not the first Blue Screen percentage, but suppositly that copies the USB install files to the harddrive.) the "Copy files" section. Went through successfully.

But that "tick" is exactly what MS did when they changed the way in which they presented the upgrade to users of win 7 and Win 8/8.1 IF you were not alert that box would be ticked and an update would then happen at the scheduled time as you have already agreed to the same as any other recommended update ....

Exactly. Except if MS ticked it on your behalf? It you ticked it or whomever set up the PC ticked it, blame them/yourself AND MS.

That IS what MS did.

I have just dealt with a PC which was brought tome because the owner was unsure what to do. The upgrade had not yet happened as it was schedule in a few weeks time so I showed the owner what happened and how the upgrade could now be prevented form happening. Which we then did, by unticking that box .

Almost immediately after connecting to the Internet up popped the upgrade invite again giving me the opportunity to demonstrate what needs to be done IF you do not want to upgrade, ever.

But the interesting thing was after a fairly long discussion, and having a look at my PC, the owner opted for the free upgrade which has now been completed ....

In this case it was the fear of the unknown largely influenced and made worse by all the hype. No unusual 3rd party sw was on the PC, no packages that would not work etc. So hopefully, I will not be asked to reverse the process (unless some or other propeller head gets hold of the owner, fills her head with BS)

unlike me, most people did not welcome the free upgrade. I love Windows 10 and put it second to Windows 98 SE which is still my favorite.
