the 7th gen intel CPU's and Ryzen, from my understanding, don't run windows 7 or 8.1 at all. You need windows 10 or it won't work.

So, that brings me to a predicament. I like W7, kinda tolerated W8 and 8.1 is alright.

But Windows 10 I've heard is a nightmare, with bloatware, spyware etc.

So basically if you want a PC in modern 2017, you are forced to use W10 or linux or some ****.

There's a usermade hack that allows updates on 7/8.1

You'll have to change to Windows 10 eventually if you enjoy new games. Some of the newer titles coming out only supports windows 10.

Most people enjoy Windows 10 a lot more than Windows 7 after using it a few days. Some even wonder how they tolerated Windows 7 after using 10.

It will only be bloated if you go crazy in the app store :P

Also all these people complaining about Windows 10 collecting data/spying on you.. they seem to forget Google collects a lot more data than Microsoft

I've been running Win10 since forever on multiple PC's - it's MS's best o/s that I've used.

Of course, if you're a paranoid person who believes that M$ is out to get you and sell all your telemetry data to the darkweb, the CIA and the Russian Mafia, then I would avoid it like plague.

PS: The latest version DOES have a rather irritating 'feature' which allows Microsoft to push 'ads' into File Explorer, but I'm not sure how intrusive it is since I haven't upgraded to that version yet.

But yah, Win10 isn't a nightmare for me - I'm very happy with it.

:crylaugh: there's basically nothing useful in that excuse for an App Store - maybe thats why my PC has avoided the 'bloat'

Windows 10 is fine, been using it since it came out.

I ended up disabling Cortana and restricting all the privacy settings (and Windows 10 does have a lot of ways for you to do that), so I'm pretty happy with what's going on now.

Otherwise the only issue with Windows 10 is it updates quite frequently. Just get an SSD and the performance will be a lot less frustrating.

The only real issue with Windows 10 for me was the auto updating thing, but you can fix this via group policy editor so it's not a big deal. Other than that I cannot see any reason to continue using Win 7.

No problems with Windows 10 Pro here. Completed upgrading our user base last August and everyone seems happy with it.

Also been running it since launch on multiple machines.. havent seen any adds in the creators update yet, unless it only applies if you don't use onedrive/office365, which I do.

Even using Edge with no backup browser installed. Chrome has gone to **** with its massive memory usage/battery drain the last few years. Really don't see how people have issues with Edge, using it on varied pc's ranging from atom tablets, dual core Celeron's to a high end gaming pc with oodles of memory/ssd speeds and the experience is the same fast responsive browser... Chrome/firefox, yea, super slow on low spec machines

what about the 'ads' (as per the Hair on Fire people)

Can turn them off, See link for how and most of the spying as well, biggest problem most people have is not that it has them, its that they are on by default. I have no issues with 10 other that they keep turning the crap back on with major updates like Anniversary and Creative.

Bloat like Facebook/Twitter and such can be un-installed so no issues there either.

Yeah, I must confess that I don't even notice that stuff - I've been very happy with 10 for a long time now

You can also get rid of all the tiles on the start menu, I prefer it this way and then looks a lot cleaner:
