Windows 10 issues and solutiions

Installed all the drivers on the dell manufacturers page for my laptop. Afterwards USB3 slots weren't working
Solution was to uninstall the USB 3.0 entries in device manager and scan for hardware changes.
PHP:

Windows search includes web and windows store results. Solution was to disable web searching in settings and also just for safety I disabled it in the group policy editor. Cortana was also getting annoying so also disabled it. Setting-Privacy-Speech - Stop getting to know me. Now everything is good.

I thought Cortana wasn't available in South Africa. Mine was disabled by default.

Same here!! How so I enable it?
The laptop I updated had United States and not SA in the Windows regional settings.

You probably just have to google how to change regional settings to US in windows 10 to enable cortana.

Which Dell laptop do you have? I experienced the same issue, once I installed the USB3.0 Driver, the USB 3.0 ports stopped working... uninstall the driver and the USB ports work (although I am not sure if it works in USB3.0 mode). I got the Dell XPS L502X.

I also installed the Windows 7 sound driver... the windows 10 RealTek sound driver makes my sound terrible... then I had to download some FixIt from Microsoft which blocks RealTek sound from updating itself through Windows update :)

Dell Precision. When I installed the software from the Dell site the USB 3 ports stopped working. Didn't recognize and USB drive put in at all. USB2 or 3. In device manager I uninstalled it and made sure to click the checkbox to remove the driver was selected. This forced the Microosft driver to be used.

After updating on my Windows 8.1 laptop, the Start icon shows, but is totally non functional. (HP Celeron,64bit, 2GB Ram)

meh my start menu stopped working and none of the fixes work for it.
Had to create a new user and copy stuff across.
I remember this kind of poop happening when windows 8 was still new so expect it will get sorted out eventually.

I get a blue screen of death each time I try to open the camera app

Too many yellow flags in Device Manager. Could not get WiFi so reverted back to 8.1.

I've got two laptops running Windows 10 and both of them are running smoothly.

Am I doing something wrong? :p

Noo but some of us had a hard time getting to paradise! It depends quite a bit on what other sw is running on a machine when the upgrade happens ---- In my case there was plenty of legacy sw running, some really very old. the other hassles was dealing with printer drivers. --- Still have an outstanding issue with an HP printer that will not run as a network printer under win 10.

The only program that gave me a fright was Microsoft Money. I had to do a registry edit to correct a version conflict for Internet Explorer. Then I had to replace mnyob99.dll with a patched version. It is smooth sailing since then.

Hmmm.

Is anyone still waiting on their copy of Windows 10? I have tried to force the download to start via the normal tips and tricks (edit registry, delete files \SoftwareDistribution\Download folder then run certain command in cmd prompt, etc etc) and I still get a download failed. In the end the only thing it leads me to is wait for your notification.

Download the Windows 10 media creation tool and choose to upgrade your copy of windows.
