Windows 10 issues and solutiions

Online account I managed to get to login without a passwd some time ago. Recently I created a local account & I would like windows to always default to this account at login?

Second thing is I can't seem to get the local account to autologin?

You have to switch to the local account in the settings app. Problem, it is not really a 'switch' or something goes wrong. :)
 
Really annoyed with this stupid hybrid shutdown that Microsoft released with Win10.
I thought I fixed the issue but the laptop still never switches off.

Open an elevated cmd prompt and type:

powercfg /hibernate off

fixed. Hybrid shutdown is one of MS's suckier ideas and causes no end of problems because the OS never clean boots for weeks.
 
Having issue of Win10 Pro N not recognizing my Lumia device. What can do to fix this? Anyone had similar issue?

good old fashioned trick that still works:

start > Run (or open a cmd prompt - not sure if you need elevation, i disable UAC)

control userpasswords2

Select the account to auto login

Untick "users must enter a password to use the computer"

OK > and enter the password to use when auto loging in...
 
Windows 10 upgrade issue

Hi gents I need help I used media creation tool to download windows 10 iso file so that , I can perform the upgrade at a later stage when I m free .Now the product key is required ,I used my windows 7 ultimate key no joy ...Guys how do I get the key to perform the Windows 10 upgrade ?

you need to actually do the UPGRADE from Windows 7...

I have done the upgrade on a number of PC's. I found the most reliable method was running the USB setup from Computer/My Computer/This PC.
 
If doing the upgrade from within the current OS ( be it 7 or 8 ) & it asks for a product key then the current product key isn't valid.

Meaning your current OS isn't legal.

You cannot enter a Windows 7 or 8 product key into Windows 10 when it asks for it.

Solution:

1) Re-activate the current OS with a valid cd-key then do the upgrade again. It'll do the upgrade without asking for a product key then.

or...

2) In the sources folder, find the ei.cfg file and open it in a text editor such as Notepad or WordPad. If ei.cfg file doesn’t exist under the sources folder then create a new text document with the name of ei.cfg.

After that, copy and paste the below-given text into the ei.cfg file and then save it.

[EditionID]
Core
[Channel]
Retail
[VL]
0

Note: Only above-given text should be into the ei.cfg file. Please, make sure that anything that already exists in the ei.cfg file should be absolutely cleared first.

It'll allow you to install Win 10 without asking for a product key but you will have to activate Win 10 within 30 days.

P.S. I've done method 2 more times than I can remember & it works every single time. He has PROFFESSIONAL but it didn't work. Change it to CORE. Also last value change from 1 to 0. ( For some reason those 2 values he gave doesn't work but WILL work with the above values).
 
It will also ask for the key if you try to update with a different version of windows from the version you currently has (running from a USB) i.e. Home, home single language, pro etc and 32bit or 64 bit.
 
MS EDGE disappeared on me today .... Anyone else seen this behaviour from WIN 10 Pro?

If so How do you get it back?

Yeah I've tried everything. Nothing works.
