I just remembered that Cortana is also the name of that semi nude AI girl/assistant in Halo , amusing how they took the name from there.

Yup. All very intentional. That's why the project codename was Cortana. It was never intended as the product name but tens of thousands petitioned Microsoft to use the name Cortana for the released product.

...Originally Cortana was only meant to be a codename but a petition on Windows Phone's UserVoice site that proved to be popular made the codename official.
