Windows 10 Technical Preview - Insider Program

My first post using W10 Phone Insider on the Lumia 1520. Dozens of apps still installing. Next thing is to work out why the three O365 mail accounts are not working.

Feels surprisingly smooth. But it's clearly a beta and far from finished. First thing I noticed on reboot is how fast the Wi-Fi connected.

I think you're in the wrong thread :p

I cannot update from Build 9841.

I get "Failed to install the new preview build, please try again later. 0x80240016"

I've tried from a clean boot. I cannot boot with safe mode ala Advanced Boot settings for some odd reason either.

Any ideas?

Can you download the latest .iso and see if you can perform an upgrade?

Pleasantly surprised by 10049, very fast and smooth, even finding IE to be much better as Spartan.

Installed Lightroom into my Win10 installation, I'm finding it faster than on the same machine under Win7 Professional.

Edit to add
The update was fecking slow to do though, I left the laptop to run overnight to allow it to finish, took hours to complete.

Ive been on 10049 for a few days I think. last night my pc did an update again which I left running over night but I still seem to be on 10049. There are definitely some changes between the 10049 I was on and the 10049 I am on now.

I dont know if any of you are having this problem or not but for the last 3 builds I've been having problems with the taskbar going away (looks like explorer crashes without an error message. I have been meaning to have a look in the event viewer but just havnt gotten the chance yet. This seems to happen roughly every 10 seconds to every few minutes. One has to open task manager and run explorer.exe from there.

I've tried a fresh install and that hasn't helped either.. Ive also noticed that for the last 3 builds I've had problems with an updated AMD driver for the 7790. When booting I sometimes get a blank screen and all USB devices seem to turn off. It then just stays in that state for hours. I have to reboot into safemode, Unistall the AMD driver and reboot again. It then works normally for a couple of reboots and then I'm back to square one. The driver on AMDs website seems to last a bit longer before I have to redo this whole driver dance..

The Android Emulator Andy doesnt work at all on windows 10 :( (seems to be a driver issue with one of the virtual box adapters)

EDIT:
looks like its a problem with the Autodesk range of software...

My Start Menu doesn't work... It does not appear... tried CCleaner, tried the PowerShell trick, both didn't work.

EDIT: I have come across a link, from a bit of Googling around. I see Microsoft released an update regarding this issue (KB3061161): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3061161

The issue now is getting the update, seeing as I cant access my start menu. I did manage to get to settings and try run Windows Update, hopefully this will work and it will get the update.

Couldn't find a direct link the update...that would have been nice.

EDIT: My 3G Modem no longer works, and Windows Update doesn't seem to work. Error Code: 0x8024402f

That's why I've decided to wait for Windows 10 RTM which will be released in June/July.

I hope the RTM will have most issues ironed out. I am testing Windows 10 Insider Preview on my spare laptop, its not much when it comes to specs, but it gets things done :) If I were running Windows 10 on my main laptop, I would be so mad right now!

I had the same problem, I found I post on the Microsoft forum where someone had resolved it by changing to US English and reboot, and then back to UK English and reboot. This worked for me.

Ahh, me too. I feel 2 months is not enough to fix all the reported nasty bugs. If 10 turns out to be as rubbish as 8, I will be done with M$ for real.

Had fun with the one build in a vm, and the update just fscked it up.

Cortana became more self aware after the update and went rogue after finding out it was sandboxed :D

I played with mine a bit in the last few days in a vm. To be honest, it was not as fun as I thought it would be :( 6 months later and it's still glitchy. Bad news, if you ask me.

Early Windows 7 Beta builds were so stable. The RTM version was so polished. You could run Batman: Arkham Asylum when it was released at that time without any issues.
