Great news. Just finished download 10162 2 days ago and had no time to update due to load shedding and other things.
Few gigabytes download completely wasted....

About contains the TOC registration

You can check the activation in Control Panel->System.
 
Apparently if you are on the insider program and do a clean install you won't get windows 10 for free. Will wait and see if it turns out to be true.

holy schit. so you telling me all the effort I went through last night, was for nothing?

it sounds like it will work if you install a pirate version of 7 or 8, and then upgrade from there. Is that right?

What I think they did is you have to do an upgrade from Windows 8 via the Windows Update from Jul 15. If afterwards you do a clean install of any build version you won't be able get activated where before Jul 15 you would have been.

Thank goodness I did my installs on the 12th and 14th. Loving the speed of windows 10!

So now my new laptop has windows 10. Will it be activated at some point, or must I reinstall windows 8, and upgrade to 10?

Windows Insider program has been suspended temporarily.

If you like me have clean installed and have now a 10240 unactivated windows.... fret no more! Just follow these steps. I just did it on my, and bobs your uncle, it worked!

How to activate Windows 10 build 10240

Open an elevated command prompt.
Type the following command and hit the Enter key:
slmgr /ipk W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX
Wait for the message box popup that the key is installed.

Now type the following command and press Enter
slmgr /skms kms.xspace.in
Again, wait for the message box.

Finally, enter the following command:
slmgr /ato

It does look like a similar method people used to fresh install windows 8.1 with a windows 8 cd key :o
