Windows 10 Technical Preview - Insider Program

I did my upgrade this morning from the 10240 Preview to RTM with the ISO. No issues during and after the upgrade, my copy of windows is still activated and it seems like I got a new unique key as well. :)

Anyone know anything about this:

Windows 10 security alert as new 'feature' automatically shares your wifi passwords with ALL Outlook, Skype and Facebook contacts who also have the software

Experts say the feature is 'an accident waiting to happen' clearly.

DailyMail wouldn't be my first choice for reliable tech news.

Maybe this is a stupid question and might be answered already somewhere.

I was part of the TP with the builds, i used a small HHD for the installation for testing now i would like to do a clean installation on a bigger drive and do the upgrade to the latest build.

Should i install the TP first or can i just install the latest build and how do i get the TP license i had.

This was thoroughly debunked in last night's Windows Weekly on TWiT.

The story has its genesis in a feature called WiFi Sense in Windows Phone, which allows you to share your wifi access with other WinPhone users. They can't see your creds at all. It is revoked by simply sliding a switch.

See the text at the bottom of this screenie:

I had the same issue with the preview.
It's not Outlook but windows itself.

You need to run the repair tool that scans the system files and replace a corrupt one with a good one from the cache.

Not at my pc now, Google windows repair tool.

Is it this Link?

My activation went through this morning. Could not get it to activate last night.

I did manage to upgrade both my Windows 8.1 Pro and my wife's Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 10. Will see if I can get hers to activate tonight, it was still running the installation of Windows 7 it came out of the box with back in 2011 :D

that's weird... i'm not going to clean install

Well it was either this

The activation servers are getting hammered all day today:D

Or I broke the kms after the initial upgrade tying to fix it.

Now I'm just stuck in that can't install video driver loop. Update from windws windws update, update fails, remove, official driver fails, repeat.

Glad it went through. Yesterday was a bad day for the activation servers. At one stage they were doing 48 activations a second. There's a video showing 16.3 activations a second on Windows Central here.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the tech preview? Did we "get" Pro for free? I will be reinstalling my copy with Pro & see if my insider key works on the Pro version.

I tried at 6:50am and it went through. Last night I had to retry updates about 10 or more times before they ran through. Not too impressed with the fact that it pulled in the Realtek sound drivers and now I have that horrible Realtek sound manager in the system tray. Guess I'll have to remove it from starting up with CCleaner.

Told my wife to try at some time during the day to active her install. Will feedback if it goes through.

Any one upgraded a 7 Starter yet? I have a couple of them I need to visit and upgrade. Problem is they were activated with the "Windows 7 Activator" which essentially looks at the hardware in your machine and then injects a OEM VLK into the OS based on your platform, and Windows appears to be activated. For example if you have a Gigabyte system board it will use a Gigabyte key. So I do hope they will pass off as legit Windows 7 installs.

According to some internet "scientists" DAZ Loader should work will have to test at work & see what it does. Much easier using the loader to inject the legal key than phoning MS to activate 10+ PC's

Good question. I'm in the same boat. I've run jellybean to get my key and have downloaded the ISO. Wondering if the key will work on the ISO should I need to reinstall.

So here is the question I have, on my wfie's laptop now running Windows 10 - what key do I use if I have to clean install in future? It only has a 7 home basic key stuck to the bottom. Is there a way I can get a valid key from Windows 10 after it activated?

Sorting out a few machines today then Ill do my work machine, had an issue doing the upgrade with my Home PC but got that sorted this morning had to download the ISO's from MS as the update path broke.

Did install another PC at work with the final insider build using the esd method last week & it got a different product key than my original insider update. So keys are not the same making me think if I use this key I might be able to do a clean install with the Pro version, just hope it works.

AIDA64 should read the key doing a clean install at work now after an upgrade loading nic drivers so will see if the key works that we got off the upgrade, you wont use your WIN7 or WIN8 key, WIN 10 generates a new key, probably based off of your "legal" status in the version before upgrade.
