Windows 10 update removes Windows Media Player

Why did you lose your blue tooth? And why should Bill Gates bring it back to you? You must stop leaving stuff laying about, man :D

:D Microsoft likes to do updates regularly on Win 10 as we all know, so between then and now, my bluetooth was removed and I never got it back from any updates, although I don't really use my blue teeth anyway , I keep them in my mouth - it's safer there :D

I've never been able to play mkv files among others on WMP, even on Windows 10. VLC FTW.

You can look for something like K-lite codec pack (not sure if it's still called that, it's years since I used windows). Then WMP should be able to play more or less everything.

Some others prefer Media Player Classic over VLC or WMP.

I used to use that all the years back :)

Nothing and I mean nothing touches WMP on the library side. WMP till I die.

plex is nice, but expensive, not as good as VLC streaming to a device,
There's a free version...

Why they removing it?

And no, VLC isn't better, WMP has a nice big stop and start button right in the centre at the bottom, just the perfect spot.
Just hit spacebar...

Its plays FLAC and MKV natively and the colour accuracy is much better in WMP, VLC looks washed out for some reason.
My tests confirm this on Skylake Win10 PC. WMP is giving the best colour rendering for modern H.264/H.265 formats and VLC is the worst. In the middle are Kodi and a player embedded in K-Lite Codec Pack. WMP also handles the best 10-bit HEVC (which requires hybrid decoding - not supported in CPU hardware), when CPU is struggling at 40-60%.

BTW, Windows movie app (whatever is called) is using the same libraries as WMP, results are exactly the same.

Movies and tv?

This is balls, I still use WMP to play MP3 and flac files. Now what, use the new music Windows 10 app? *Pukes*
