Wow the tool worked perfectly, got the key, checked it and also just tried the 'change product key' in Windows settings, it worked.
Thanks buddy.

Although it was always activated I still can't get the updates.
Now feel much safer doing a clean install with the key

Actually, the key/s won't help much. The Windows 10 key is generic so it's just a freely available key that's not unique to your machine. The Windows 7 key is also useless in theory since that was only for an upgrade that has since expired. As I mentioned before, you don't need a key to re-install Windows 10.

Nope. It is what Microsoft say, their wishes. It matters only you, I noticed that before. A real deployement figures are non-existent. 3 to 4 years from now, as we can speak, when they fail on mobile market and learn (hopefully) how to treat customers.

Regarding a problem highlihted in this thread, it is not exclusive to Windows 10, I saw it in Windows 7. It had been even implanted in my copy of XP after installing MS Security Essentials package.

I'm using an adsl connection and similar issues as the previous poster, the update shows up in Windows update, it downloads, but then the installation fails. And hence it tries to download the update over and over again.i do think other updates install though for eg the monthly windows defender update and others

I found another reference to this recurring problem some users have experienced with the original version of WIN 10 that was released.

Maybe reading through this thread will help you? But like all these things, do not just do what others' have done as your circumstances may just be different enough. Look at what they propose, check your setup and then take precautions such as creating restore points etc.

In the process I have discovered that not all users have received the option to upgrade to the win 10 Anniversary edition, mostly it seems are persons with self-built PCs.

In any event, I was very pleased to be able to dump WIN 10 10240 as soon as an alternative became available. I no longer have any PCs myself or ones that I support for other users with older versions of WIN 10 and all the PCs I maintain are running WIN 10 Pro 64 bit, version 1607.

I have a number of standard Group Policy changes I have done, mostly to handle issues of being able to control the update process better and to prevent update downloads when on certain types of connections.

This is why I do not appreciate the WIN 10 Home version, because it takes away too much control from the user. I do not understand MS's logic yet with the Home version.

Things at actually quite quiet these days on the WIN 10 front. The only perplexing problem I have not yet found the root cause for is why some PCs and laptops, will not connect to the Internet at times, and all the recommended trouble shooting guides show up nothing. And then out of the blue the connection will return of its own.

Thanks, seems like a problem with that build number, I got same build and 64 bit.
Anyway, I downloaded the Iso from media creation tool, hoping it is the latest build and will try clean install. Can only do it after the 16th December as that Pc is in a different location. I cannot clean install using team viewer lol

Yes I see that the update failure problem has been around for quite a while affecting Win 7 and WIN 8 and WIN 8.1.
MS is not particularly helpful when it comes to helping with out of the ordinary problems.

Ms is useless, have you tried contacting the call centre? All they want to do is connect to your pc and try the generic stuff thinking we are useless,I don't think they are advanced technical support.
