Windows 11 Support Thread

The problem is the update part I would say. No matter what I tried I simply could not update from my Windows 10 install. I think it is because it was many years old and I had multiple tweaks made to the registry. Something in there upset Windows 11.

So I cloned my borked Windows 11 install for backup purposes and did a format/fresh install of 11. No issues at all. Plus I copied back all the things I needed off the backup clone I made.
Same, tried 2 times, I didnt want to reinstall all my sht but it wouldn't upgrade
That's a good question. Win 11's new rules may not play nicely with the Rufus "insecure" structure.
I used it and on a clean install it went flawlessly.

Win 11 finally gets a sleek OS interface, circa Mac 10yrs ago but I'm still stoked, finally!

What have those fskers been spending the budget on at MS, some of those OS icon sets in Win 10 were legit 12yrs+ old hand me downs?

One new good feature I experienced.
It remembers your monitor config. When I am using only one monitor on my desktop, I use my desktop just as a third spotify/youtube/personal email monitor and prefer it in portrait mode.
When I have 2 monitors connected, I use it as my gaming PC and want both monitors horizontally.
Now, when I disconnect my one monitor, the remaining automatically switches to portrait mode, and switches back to landscape when I reconnect my second monitor.

The bad:
How do I open powershell in administrator mode in a specific folder from explorer? That option is gone.
Now I have launch it from start, and then navigate to the folder I want.

I did a test upgrade on old laptop and the performance is worse than Windows 10.
Also the taskbar doesn't support being on the left or right which is a deal breaker for me.

WIndows 11 doesn't feel like an OS. It just feels like a 3rd party skinning app on top of existing Windows 10 chewing memory and CPU

I honestly think the reason they don't allow it to be installed easily on old devices is because of performance. TPM being the reason old devices is not supported is just a excuse they made up.

Just installed Windows 11 on an older Lenovo E470 - seems to be ticking along nicely, just needs a battery calibration and more RAM, if I can find my spare 8GB stick.

Changing default browsers is a chore, though...

Well if you like a degraded browsing experience there are options like Chrome, Opera, FirePox, Brave... etc.

I, on the other hand, enjoy the elite experience of the best browser known to man. Edge.

Will this help? (Not Admin mode tho)

> Right-click the folder you want to open the PowerShell console to.
> Press and hold the "Shift key" on the keyboard, then click the "Show more options".
> There should be an option "Open PowerShell here"

OR ... follow THIS

I use Edge on my work laptop, but prefer Brave for my personal use as it syncs between my Mac, Xiaomi and Windows laptop.

I tried Edge on Android but it was a lag-fest. Brave is the only browser that worked well for me across all three platforms

I know about the right click and already "fixed" the win 11 context menu.

That link though! Thanks!

Edit, needed some fixes, possibly because I already made the context menu fix.

Now looks like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

There was an extra " in the command

OK.... so originally I upgraded Windows 10 to 11, and it worked great. Hardware Unboxed said that a clean install gets better FPS, so the upgrade was always temporary.
Yesterday I made the leap and did a clean install.

And now I have a slow AF POS Windows 11.
I hoped it would go after I installed the AMD drivers, but no.

I think I will wait a week or so and see if it somehow improves and then go back to 10.

Took the plunge this morning and installed it on my HP Elitedesk with (unsupported) Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G, TMP 2.0 on and secure boot enabled - 30 minutes and I was up and running. Speed is, from what I can tell, the same as in Windows 10 - could even be better. Played an hour of Xonotic over lunch and it too works like I remember it.

TIL that 'bit' is called 'bis' in Afrikaans. Thought it would be called brokkie or something.

For some reason, every 3 or 4 times I wake the E470 from sleep, the touchpad and keyboard nipple won't respond at all. A restart fixes it, but it is rather annoying. Lenovo forums are full of reports of it happening so maybe it's just a Synaptics driver issue.
