Windows 11 Support Thread

If all of the software you currently utilise is Windows 11 compatible, then yes, you could upgrade safely to it. However, if your current software can only run reliably on Windows 10, then you still have until January 2025 before Microsoft stops supporting it with any more updates, and you will be forced to upgrade by either purchasing a new PC / laptop pre-installed with Windows 11, or if your hardware is supported, doing an in-place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

I have been using it on 'unsupported hardware' since it was launched in July 2021, and so far have found it to be more stable than Windows 10 - far less BSODs and the performance is just about the same as with Windows 10.

Dell Core i3 10th Gen laptop. Since updating to Windows 11, laptop refuses to sleep when left alone. Instead it shuts down and needs to be cold started, losing open work in the process. SupportAssist and firmware up to date, Dell Power Manager installed, all Power settings checked & reset... Any ideas?

Can't now but I've been through everything a few times, from the reset settings state, to keeping on/turning off storage drive, to enabling hibernation and disabling it, etc.

At my wits' end and am considering simply setting laptop to not sleep while connected to charger.

Exactly ... why does it need to sleep? ... what happens when you close the lid? ... if it sleeps, then just do that every time you get up

For as long as I've own PC's/Laptops, I've always set those power option to NEVER turn off screen or sleep :p

I have my laptop power settings set as follows, when connected to the mains charger:

1. Press the 'Sleep' key on the keyboard to activate 'Sleep Mode'.
2. Close the lid to enable 'Hibernate Mode'.
3. Turn off screen after 30 minutes.
4. Power set to always on (Never Sleep).

For battery power, I have it set as follows:

1. 'Sleep' key - Same as for Mains power.
2. Hibernate Mode - Same as for Mains power.
3. Turn off screen after 10 minutes.
4. Power set to always sleep after 15 minutes.
