Did you set it up with the Default Switch or your own Virtual Switch?

I use the Virtual Switch for mine that bridges the MAC onto the my network so my router can give the VM an IP.
I have always used Virtual Switch. The settings still look the same, but there is no access to it. The machine is running under Hyper-V.

I see Ms is back to their dirty old tricks with whatever is the latest update, Edge has stolen the PDF association and MS’s albeit better and more refined image viewer has taken over as the default viewer. Fkn dirty rotten scumbags!!
It’s so overt, why would they choose to do such a pedestrian scummy move?

For sure have a one off pop up, “would you like to open images with the new **?” don’t just steal them..

Also it appears the pared down right click menu has been reverted to the Win 10 default of showing you everything and the kitchen sink when you right click, is there anyway to go back to the default pared down menu?

I have found previously on updates (driver updates even) that Hyper-V changes the network adapter your Virtual Switch uses. So in my case I have a Realtek 2.5GbE as my network connection, but some updates has Hyper-V use the Wi-Fi adapter and I have to switch it back. So maybe check that?

Anyway @Rouxenator Any issues running windows in afrikaans BTW? Like finding stuff?
Initially - YES!!!

Hitting start and typing calc and not getting anything is frustrating AF. But you soon learn to use sakr instead. Because I do use some English windows instances too you learn to adapt.

Much the same as with learning to cope with Asian and European cars having their indicators and wipers swapped.

I had to cross the same bridge when I ditched keyboard with numpads for tenkeyless. No longer could I user alt codes (ALT-136 = ê) but instead I switched my keyboard from US to US-international. Now when I type a ^ nothing happens until I either hit space or a letter that can get a kappie. Same goes for " ' ` and a few other modifiers.

In short I thing it is the right think to do and you get used to it very quick and adapt when you are on standard US like systems.

Not that either - I only have 1 nic on the desktop. I have also reset network connections, after deleting the hyper-v adapter. After a restart, I recreated it. But still no network on the vm...

Any chance you can connect to it directly from Hyper-V and do a getmac ? Something like this?

Then you can log on to your router and see if the static IP is still allocated?

Not sure why a feature update would break that but you never know.

I really do appreciate your advice, that helped me to search in the right direction. I eventually found this article that shed some light on the cause of the problem:

But the big issue was that I could not disable the problematic extension on the external switch. It would re-enable itself, regardless of any other actions and settings I changed. That meant that the vm had no network access at all. I eventually did what I was meaning to do for the last 3 months - Clean install of the latest version and install all my stuff from scratch. Now the "cupboard" is clean again and everything is purring like new again...

I had to redo my Windows Subsystem for Android completely (I assume it relates to the Hyper-V virtual switch issue as it was also having a ton of messages related to that in event viewer, and the network portion would not start up)
Virtualbox needed an update as it was pretty broken and Blue Screening (still an issue with Mounting ISOs but I have a workaround)
Geforce Experience needed an update to resolve issues
All my system drivers too (Killer Wifi has a known issue with the update)

Mine is flying now after the fresh install. This was the first full fresh install since building the PC almost 2 years ago.

My current install is probably around 12yrs old, started on Win 7 and has been migrated through 3 or 4 different computers. I can’t remember when last I had a bsod and it’s never been a significant issue. It’s still surprisingly chipper, actually modern Windows is incredibly robust. I’d love to do a fresh install but the thought of all the work reinstalling everything and hacking windows to my liking is rather daunting and as the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it..
