Windows 11 Support Thread

My current install is probably around 12yrs old, started on Win 7 and has been migrated through 3 or 4 different computers. I can’t remember when last I had a bsod and it’s never been a significant issue. It’s still surprisingly chipper, actually modern Windows is incredibly robust. I’d love to do a fresh install but the thought of all the work reinstalling everything and hacking windows to my liking is rather daunting and as the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it..

My main disk now has about 100 gig more free capacity after the reinstall. All programs that were installed are already in. Finding was chowing the space

Maybe there was an undeleted Windows.old folder or 2, 100gb is quite a lot.

Have you tried resetting your Windows installation instead of reinstalling everything? :)

I tried that once. The reset program farted around and did who knows what for a very time, then at the end Windows was still not fully reset. It's quicker and cleaner to format and do a fresh install.

Took the plunge.

Except for the icons now all being in the centre of the taskbar, weather icon on the left and fewer icons visible on the right, looks pretty much like my Windows 10. :)

Did an in-place upgrade, got stuck on 61 per cent, uninstalled Sennheiser driver, restarted everything and voila - running Win 11 now.

This app is awesome, you do need to open it and press the restart Explorer button after major updates but other than that it’s worked flawlessly for me, Ms can get stuffed with their stupid over reaching!

One thing that still baffles my brain is after all these years and countless upgrades and updates Ms native search is still near useless, even more so now that it wants search the internet when you search the start menu. It’s so stupid that if a program has two words and you type only the second word it can’t find that app.
I still use an archaic app called Launchy to find apps, it’s lightening fast and accurate. And the Everything app for instant and systemwide file search.

there's a toggle setting to move them left.
 
Dear All . I really need your assistance with regards to WSA (windows support for android). This is required for some android apps not available on Windows store and for Google home. Apparently, I can't load Amazon app store as its not rolled out to RSA (also its a limited app store) and have seen that some Google playstore builds have malware in them (Github sourced). What's the best new way to load Google playstore on Windows 11?
 
My computer updated to version "22H2" today. Looks much more polished with the new icons and more rounded controls. Just getting used to the new positioning for things like brightness and volume change indicators.

I forgot about the Android app thing, how well do they work and is it actually useful?
Any must have android apps?
