Windows 11 Support Thread

Sharing

Upgraded m/b and cpu from intel based to AMD based.

1. Mirror image of existing boot ssd using Macrium 8 (last free version) to a new NVME

2. Replace h/w incl boot SSD

2.1 Keep track of and plug all other drives into the same SATA port numbers (x5)

3, Boot PC - wahey, it boots. Remove Intel m/b drivers, install AMD drivers, couple of restarts later, everything except Arc browser up and running. (load virtual image of old boot drive, find Arc folders, copy to new drive - boom! everything is back)

The only other thing I needed to do was recreate a couple of shares that went cuckoo and rebind IP to the router static list.

Count me impressed.

PS: I know, I know, clean install is best, breast is best, yadda, yadda….

there's vids on YT ... but what is preventing you? ... what error ?
Trying to install 24H2 update and it fails. Cant recall the exact error code but it pointed to the fact that there was insufficient space on the EFI partition. Will run the update again and get the exact error code.
Install error - 0xc1900201

Recall looks pretty invasive, are there any T&C to protect users or will the FBI have access to your full activity history?!

"To use Recall, you will need to opt-in to save snapshots, which are images of your activity, and enroll in Windows Hello to confirm your presence so only you can access your snapshots. You are always in control of what snapshots are saved and can pause saving snapshots at any time. As you use your Copilot+ PC throughout the day working on documents or presentations, taking video calls, and context switching across activities, Recall will take regular snapshots and help you find things faster and easier. When you need to find or get back to something you’ve done previously, open Recall and authenticate with Windows Hello. When you’ve found what you were looking for, you can reopen the application, website, or document, or use Click to Do to act on any image or text in the snapshot you found."

Does anyone know how to fix the issue shown in the screenshot below?
Explorer Patcher is doing something weird with the Taskbar window tabs, instead of them getting smaller as the number of tabs increases they get shoved into this weird overflow menu and there's a big gap between the end of that and the system tray.

Using Registry

Registry Disclaimer: It is recommended to create a System Restore point first, if you’re not familiar with registry manipulation.
1. Run regedit command to open Registry Editor.

2. In left pane of Registry Editor window, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. In right pane, set TaskbarGlomLevel DWORD Value data for the setting you want:

SettingValue data
Always0
When Taskbar is full1
Never2

So if you want to combine taskbar buttons only when the taskbar is full, set the TaskbarGlomLevel DWORD Value data to 1.

4. Once registry changes are done, you need to restart Explorer. You can also restart your system.

Make sure that the two highlighted options at the bottom are set to 'Always Combine' for both the Primary & Secondary Taskbars...

Thanks for that but I don't want man combined and I have those set to not combine, it used to be fine till quite recently.
I dont have that .... I actually use the "never combine" feature ... always have & always will.

Your taskbar doesn't seem to be locked ?

I also have it set to never combine, it is weird as if it’s locked but it’s not though.

I checked now and the taskbar isn't locked, Win 11 actually removed that feature.
I noticed though it the extreme amount of padding on either side of the start button and next to the tab overflow button is the same, something is screwing around with that, I just can't work out what.

In Explorer patcher changing the taskbar style from Win 11 default to Win 10(Explorer patcher) fixed the weird tab overflow menu but now added the Pen Menu icon to the system tray, still a win because it's much better than it was, I can live with it like that.

Dont you have another 3rd party app like classic shell or start11 that's clashing with the settings from EP ?

I switched my taskbar to Win11 to test and I don't get that overflow menu ... my tabs just shrink as normal
