Windows 11 Support Thread

Don't worry they're focussed on AI now.
Microsoft launched its Copilot Plus PC and Windows AI efforts last year, and now it’s going a step further today with native Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Windows and the launch of the Windows AI Foundry. The groundwork is necessary for a future envisioned by Microsoft whereby automated AI agents assist their human companions.

Worse... Precision 5690
At least it's not the HP Pavilion DV series... in which case the most suitable advice would have been to wrap the motherboard in foil and bake it for 5 minutes in an oven pre-heated to 230 degrees...

(to resolder the factory connections which got loose and caused components to stop functioning - not kidding...)

Here's a handy guide for upgrading an 'unsupported' Windows 10 PC or laptop to Windows 11... ;)

If you use this Microsoft workaround, you can still install Windows 11 on an unsupported computer.

So my motherboard has provision for a TPM, but it is only the pins - where does one acquire such an exotic item?

Win 11 now comes with built in screen grabber that takes and stores screenshots every few seconds, including while you’re banking, and makes them available to anyone who has access to your PC including cyber criminals.
Is this feature now baked into all up to date Windows 11 installs?
I have seen signs of it on any of my systems.

A quick Google: Microsoft Recall is a feature in Windows 11 version 24H2. It was initially rolled out to Copilot+ PCs in April 2025 and then made generally available with the May 2025 Patch Tuesday updates.

That's the clue ... Only those PC's

You can run these commands in CMD to check/disable your own :

Check if RECALL is enabled:
Dism /Online /Get-Featureinfo /Featurename:Recall

Disable RECALL:
Dism /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:Recall

Enable RECALL:
Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /Featurename:Recall

Thanks for the quick response!

ASRock H81M-GL motherboard
17-pin TPMS1

Don't take my word on this ....

afaik that board only supports tpm v1.2 so you will most likely NOT find a module for it as W11 requires TPM v2.0 to be detected.

See this list :

See paragraph 1 :

Busy doing it now via AnyDesk for a friend in Durban - with a glacial internet connection there, it's only just completed the download & install after about 3 hours or so... 😛

and has just thrown up the 'Updates Failed' error message...
