Is it true that the latest cumulative update wont install on machines that dont have the correct hardware, even those that bypassed the install check?
Also it wont install on a compatible machine if it has Explorer patcher installed

I have KB5046617 but not 5044284Windows 11 KB5048685 bugs break Start menu, Wi-Fi, gets stuck installing and restarting - Neowin
The end of the year is not going all that well for Windows 11 users. Earlier today, Microsoft confirmed an issue wherein newer updates won't download and install on top of KB5044284 and KB5046617 in case you installed them using USB or CD media.
While that was on Windows 11 24H2, it looks like versions 23H2 and 22H2 are also problematic as the latest December 2024 Patch Tuesday (KB5048685) is causing all sorts of issues for users.
A very widespread problem seems to that related to the Start menu such that Citrix had to issue a workaround guidance about it.

On the 6th Dec I did a fresh install of 24H2 on unsupported hardware ... did some updates as per the screenshot above. Is anyone running ExplorerPatcher on Windows 11 version 24H2, do you need to uninstall it before installing 24H2?
And has anyone installed Windows 11 version 24H2 on unsupported hardware on a device with no TPM 2.0?

So on unsupported hardware you can't install 24H2 via windows update? On the 6th Dec I did a fresh install of 24H2 on unsupported hardware ... did some updates as per the screenshot above.
Then installed EP without any issues.
On my 2nd PC with unsupported hardware I did an upgrade to 24H2 via an USB image made with Rufus.
I did NOT uninstall EP and it was still working after the upgrade ... had to just change 1 setting for the taskbar to work correctly again ... this one ...

I can't see why not ? ... I just opted to go the USB routeSo on unsupported hardware you can't install 24H2 via windows update?
It’s a 6th gen Cpu.I can't see why not ? ... I just opted to go the USB route
I think there's a script or reg file you need to run beforehand to "bypass" those TPM & CPU checks.
Edit: How old is that CPU ?
It’s a 6th gen Cpu.
I’m not getting offered the 24H2 update even after allowing "Get the latest updates as soon as possible"
My other pc has been offered the 24H2 literally last month already.
I tried using an ISO to do an in place upgrade and it failed with the usual error - no TPM2.0 and CPU not supportedOk that CPU is fine ... anything pre-2010 will not be able to upgrade to 24H2
The machine I upgraded via USB was also not offered the upgrade via Windows Updates.
Maybe Google for reasons ?
