Windows 365 launched

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Windows 365, the company's new cloud service for its desktop operating system.

"Windows 365 takes the operating system to the Microsoft Cloud, securely streaming the full Windows experience—including all your apps, data, and settings—to your personal or corporate devices," said Scott Manchester, partner director of programme management for Windows 365.

I'd rather sink money into a decent PC than pay $20/month. Does this include egress data?

And then there s the possibility of the cloud going cloudy; though, granted, not Microsoft in the example quoted.

A bit expensive, but wow does this have fabulous potential (if they can get the performance to be roughly the same as native). This will be a great tool in the insurance / legal industry where there are massive hurdles for sysadmins getting people to be able to work remotely. Because of data security, some firms require people in these industries to VPN into the office server, and then RD into a VM to be able to work on documents and access network folders. This is necessary to audit the information chain.

These are essentially VMs hosted by microsoft that exist within their toolchains. I can see lots of companies moving over to this.

Hmm, so an employee can have a robust Linux machine at home and just use Windows cloud for work? Reduces the security risk and sysadmin load. Sounds like a good idea, if they can get it to work.
Still, I am glad I do not work for a corporation where a COO will decide everything that I can have and use on my machine.

For many large corporates this will be a great product, and well worth its cost actually.

Well greatly reduce the risks and complexity with BYOM type of setups really.

Exactly. This is really impressive on a technical level if it works as advertised.

In excess of R600/user per month for the most basic option.

Also, does it come with the desktop versions of Microsoft 365 included?

They use the term "supports", which could mean compatible, but not necessarily included.

Price makes it pointless. For anything above the mildest workload might as well buy a decent laptop for less than the cost of one year's subscription on this service.

I wonder how fast it'll torrent...

EDIT:
R9.9K per year for this...neesegat.
I can see the benefits but imagine paying R30K over three years for this level of computing.

I think this is aimed at 1st-world countries where it would make sense, but not to us plebs that have to pay in ZAR.

Oh wow, and here I thought this would be regionally price adjusted, phew!
