I am contemplating the dreaded upgrade! Currently running 32bit, but would like to upgrade to make use of the extra memory which 32bit OS can't use.

My question is this. Are all my games gonna work on 64bit hassle free? And what other issues can I expect from applications, and drivers with regards to 64bit hassles? Is it worth it? Applications like, Winrar, office, nod32 internet security, media player classic, hlstats, X-chat, MSN, browers, Winamp, that kind of thing.

I run Win7X64 +99999999

Runs all my games, all my software no problem! Remember it can run 32bit software if there is no 64 bit equivalent. Use MSE for your AV (FREE), and very good! I use 7zip & Winrar no probs. Media Player classic has a 64bit upgrade (K-Lite). U use the 32bit klite package & 64bit upgrade together, works perfectly. Office also no probs (2007). Don't use MSN, I Skype. Winamp - have not used in years..... I use Opera, Google Chrome and I.E (32bit comes bundled with win7 x64 - so u have both).

Loving my Win7 X64 all the way!

Most if not all 32bit programs work on Win7 64bit. You just have to make you get 64bit drivers for your devices and hardware.

I have Win 7 64 Bit aswell and upgraded from Windows XP 32bit. What a huge difference!! in a good way. I use a lot of applications. Such as Photoshop, Coreldraw, WinRAR, Skype, Firefox, Nero, WinAVI, Cyberlink Power producer etc etc. I havent had any problems with any of these at all. Infact they run faster and more stable on Win 7 than XP. I haven't upgraded anything on my computer when I upgraded besides my harddrive and I have noticed quite a big difference in speeds of video conversions and pc boot speeds etc. I am by no means a microsoft fan but I will admit that they have finally done something right with Win 7. Oh and to answer your question about drivers, when i installed Win 7 64bit it automatically installed all my drivers. So go for it.

I dont know if you know so just incase, Win 7 cant be upgraded from XP so it has to format your hardrive and do a "clean" installation. So backup all your info before installing.

I just joined the ranks of 64Bit today with my new machine.. lets see how things go :)

Ive been using Win7 for a while now with zero probs, only thing that bugs me is Winamp. I cant seem to drag & drop files to play :P
Well found a better mp3 player Foobar2000! :D

That is hands-down one of the best media players around.

Anyways, how much memory can the normal 32bit handle?

I have Win 7 and its great. Although I won't upgrade just for your memory. You will only see an improvement from 32 to 64 if you have a prosessor that supports 64bit. The 64 just makes it run faster. So you have an oldish CPU then there will be no improvement...according to microsoft.

I think the only game I've heard of that doesn't work with 7 x64 is Unreal Tournament 2004, though I haven't tested it myself personally yet. So far, all my games have worked ok, no fuss.

I built my PC a year ago and installed Windows 7 but the very first game I installed didn't work. Stalker: Clear Sky. So I went back to WinXP even though I have 4GB of ram. No issues and everything works. Anyway, I read online that the 64bit programs use more ram than 32bit programs hence even though you can now utilize 4GB of ram instead of around 3.25GB, the 64bit programs eat up much of the extra ram that you free up!
