Windows 7 a Linux killer?

As one of those fanatical linux users I got to admit that Windows 7 looks good.

I went into this test with a very negative mindset towards Windows 7 thanks to my experiences with Vista. It suprised me. If the beta looks this good, then I'll gladly use the final product. It won't become my main OS soon, but i'll be able to work with it (soon as I stop getting lost in windows. Everything's arrange so friggen illogical)

I must also complement the interface as well.....not including the xtras!
however I wonder, is the security that tight

If Windows ever does kill off Linux it will only be in the Desktop arena in my opinion. I think Linux and non Windows OS still dominate the server market and I cant see a Windows Server version being dominant in this market.

Windoze7 is good but it won't kill anything, except your wallet. and yes it's faster than vista

Keep in mind M$ still have to get their return on Vista.

The economy is in shreds, companies aren't likely to switch over quickly as they'll need to upgrade their PC's as well.

It wont really kill Linux, since it not freeware/Open Source like most Linux operating systems.

I think that Windows and Linux will each have their own following and that neither will dissapear soon.

What? is Windows 7 also free like Linux now?

That's the only way you'll kill linux. :D

+1

Why? Is it free?

And hows the virus protection going here too? Also an Ubuntu-fanboy but I will be buying Windows7 for my new PC in the making. When a competitors product (Linux / OsX) become a threat (against Windows), you know that we as consumers will be the winner at the end of the day.

All operating systems do pretty much the same thing. So, the brand doesn't matter anymore. However, there is no reason to pay anyone to get one. And, if it boots without opening a decent web browser, it wasted your time!

If Windows 7 meets the above criteria, I might use it!

My only concern regarding Windows 7 is the driver compatibility and availability with emphasis on the latter! If getting drivers for your hardware is 1% the mission it was for when Vista was released they can shove Windows 7 you know where!

When I first read the headline, I was ROLFMAO.

Yeah, it is Microsoft's dream that Windows 7 will kill off Linux, but that just is never going to happen.

I see no reason to get 7, as I saw no reason to get Vista. I am moving towards an all-Linux setup at home in any case.

My question is...

Is it faster than Vista?
Whats the requirements?
and, Does it hog resources like vista?

As long as windows is prone to BSODs it will never kill off Linux, I got a BSOD by thoroughly testing Windows 7 and went back to Linux.

I'm a gamer though so will definitely welcome the new Windows onto my machine.
