Here is the scenario:

Client had a cheap crappy acer desktop from incredible connection and the motherboard bombed out and it is not under warranty.

We replaced with board with an MSI G41-P33 and verified everything was working and running.
I tried to activate the Windows 7 and it would not over the internet. I used the phone method and that worked. The PC has been running well and today i got a call saying its not legit and the whole screen is black and everything.

My question for you: Is it doing this because the Windows 7 license is for an acer only board?
I have read a problem before where it throws out registration with oems and different packages. I don't want to go run a crack on the clients system since it is fully legit.

It's most likely an OEM copy, I'm not too sure what you can do about that except download a cr@?k, don't know wether it counts as piracy if your just fixing a problem that Microsoft won't help you with, but that's what I'd do, you'r client has already paid for it, but watch out if you do that you're most likely going to lose credibility from microsoft :erm:

I do not want to resort to a crack, could backfire later on. i'm going to give microsoft a call tomorrow and see what they can do

Win7 gets deactivated for major hardware changes,if I remember right the motherboard ( of a differing chipset ) counts as 1 such big change. If online activation doesn't work just phone and do a telephonic activation. If the phone voice asks you can specify it's on only 1 machine and was changed due to damaged hardware

I did do the telephonic activation but a day later it says not genuine, might have to just speak to a ms representative

Tell customar, also inform him that he can run Windows Loader at own risk.

Don't ever do it for them, if its a sting your stuffed ;)

That is actually really really slack from microsofts side. If that is the case i will def run a validation crack.

Nothing slack about it, its called business as usual.

They make special deals with OEM's to ship hardware with it installed for a hell of a lot less than retail <-- that part I get but what I don't get is the the next section...

If they do not sell a certain % of stock with it on Microsoft sends the auditors, if they found to comply ie: sell PC's without Windows OS they up the price for the ones that do get sold with it on.

Happened to my Lenovo also at IC. Eventually just cracked it, MS didn't wana help and couldn't justify spending thousands on an OS.

I resolved the problem. Here is what i did:

1. Click Start, and in the Search box type : slui.exe 4

2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard

3. Select your Country.
4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.
