Windows 7 and 10 completely dominate

It is. MS has just decided to stop non-critical updates on Ryzen platforms for which there is bound to be a fix if they don't reverse it.

MS isn't forcing anything. Stick to Windows 7, it's legacy so don't expect the latest things to work with it.

Win7 works on Ryzen. Win7 is also not legacy but still in extended support with MS releasing updates. This is an arbitrary decision by MS to not allow updates for Ryzen platforms that are still available for others to force people onto their failed Win10.

I installed Win 8 the day it released. As soon as I saw the Metro UI I said no and Googled for a fix. First result was Start8, which I installed and never had an issue again. It restored the Win 7 start menu and set the system to boot to desktop. I probably saw the Metro UI no more than a handful of times throughout my time with Win 8, and all were by accident.

So yeah, Win 8 was jarring. For 5 minutes.

As above, why would you not just fix something you don't like about Windows? It's been highly customisable since forever. I'm running Start10 because I prefer the Win 7 start menu over the Win 10 one.

The amount of times I've had to bust out the terminal to fix some or other BS error in Linux, especially on laptops. :rolleyes:

Quite frankly it's no surprise it hasn't caught on. As much flak as Windows catches it has a very high level of polish. Same for OSX. I still dual boot to Win 7 when I don't feel like fighting with my laptop.
