Allright, I'm sure that the boys at MS run all their networks on XP cause the IT guys couldn't get the servers to see the clients or what ever. They would never use Vista on their tiny little network?!? You win
Removed silly insult.
In the
real world you have a university. On a tight budget.. as most educational institutes are. They have customized software that manages their students, the student fee`s, their lodgings, their food, the security.. whatever a university needs. Now you have many different departments within a university.. most with their own IT budget allocations.
Now their customized software fails to run 100% on Vista.. even with really expensive consultants from around the country looking into it.. but say.. for the sake of argument.. they do get it running. Now the university has to fork out tens of millions to upgrade all the hardware on their network so all the machines, and all the network printers, and servers, and client software packages can all run on vista. The hardware costs of Vista are way higher than that of XP.. as its a badly written resource hog. It requires good hardware to perform.
Remember now that these same networks still run machines that have being running for over 10 years because of budget restraints. Are you ganna for out all the money to upgrade all the university networks? Or do you think the university is going to go with what works and whats costs efficient to them?
At the end of the day.. Mrs Icometowork is still going to be doing the SAME tasks (excel, word, email and perhaps some books software) on her brand spanking new expensive Vista rig, than she would be doing on her 8 year old XP rig. So what benefits would her company or education institute for the cost of upgrading her system? It wont be better productivity..
I understand you see the world from the "ma and pop" PC techie perspective. And I am sure you have loads of experience in something.. but its not in the average large South African corporate or education institute. This is shown by using MS as an example to a Vista compliant network.
Im sure there are some people who can afford larger networks and better machines, and I am sure they do. However, I know the banks dont though.. I know Telkom or Eskom havent done it either (by this I mean upgrade their entire network to be Vista compliant).
There is a reason most business has dodged the Vista bullet and has waited for W7. Its cause its not worth it.
Have you ever sat in places like Tarsus and watched 2000 notebooks all arrive with Vista.. and then watch them (at a cost to the company of R150 per machine to the business who sent them in)).. ALL get downgraded to XP.
Those business`s must just like throwing their money away on downgrading systems?
Im sure Vista makes a great gaming platform for you. Its got cool stuff like DX10.. and other gadgets. Enjoy it. Its right for you.
