Hey guys,

I remember seeing a while ago, a guy had somehow made his windows 7 desktop blank on startup. No icons, start menu or anything else just his background. He did it as a security measure and only he knew how to get the icons and start menu to show again.

Is the a way to do this or do you need third party software?

I think its an awesome way to keep your computer secure :)

for hiding desktop icons:
1. right click on desktop
2. point to view
3. uncheck Show Desktop Icons

for hiding taskbar, you might want to look at this:

what's so secure about hiding icons?
1. left click on empty desktop
2. CTRL+A
3. SHIFT+DEL
4. ENTER (this deletes all icons/folders/files on your desktop permanently)
can just delete everything under start -> programs too... run everything off cmd?

I'm not sure what the guy did but his desktop was blank and when he did "something" a window pooped up asking for a password and then all his icons reappeared.

sounds like a blank screensaver that just shows the background of his desktop, when he moves his mouse or presses a key, a "enter password" dialog pops up...

Yeah anyone who knows the first thing about computers won't be put off by a blank desktop lol.

As above poster stated, Win Button + L makes anyone wanting to use your computer rage (provided you have a login password...you do have one don't you?).

Something interesting though... If you open task manager....end process tree the explorer process... Then you desktop is blank.....and you cant do anything...not even start menu... But open task manager again(ctrl+shift+esc)..click file ..run..type explorer and everything comes back.
