Hi, Did anyone here experience random freezing on their windows 7 64 bit when using Windows Media Player or google talk. I get this screeching sound of "death" and then my computer freezes. Nothin responds. I am running 6GB ram, i5 2.4GHZ, HP Pavilion dv7. re-installed most drivers. Did a fresh install and still pulling my hair out.

I researched on the net and quite a few ppl experienced this problem but could not find a solution. Disable Window media player network executable. problem stopped. Pulled out a cigar and then had to put it off when i opened google talk whilst media player was running.

It seems thats the only problem now is when google talk / video and windows media player running simulyaneously.

Your help is always appreciated.

I also have an HP laptop (Elitebook) and run Win7 Ultimate 64.

I don't have your specific problem, but get intermittent display driver crashes (which "resets" itself & is fine for a while thereafter). This ONLY happens when applications are displaying video (no matter which application).

After numerous attempts to figure it out & get it sorted I've come to the conclusion that HP/ATI [not sure who's to blame] just couldn't care 2c about the quality of their drivers.

Solution? Boot into LinuxMint to watch movies ... flawless every time. :D

I know this is no consolation, but if it is an HP driver issue you're not going to get much help from them, they couldn't care less.

I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64-bit with google talk and wmp( no HP parts present ). No problems at all. Play movies and chat at the same time....

Is this not perhaps an HP driver issue?

HP Drivers are not the best in the world but according to other forum members (other sites googled) the problem exists on quite a few brands running 64 bit windows 7. Asus, Dell, lenovo etc so its not a particular brand.

Just wish this could be sorted, Its really a lovely machine overall.

I just though this problem would have been addressed by Microsoft already. Its been months now.

Do you have any errors listed in the event viewer or in the logs?

Might be worth a try to download drivers from the chipset providers (Intel, Realtek, Marvell etc) instead of the HP site as they are usually newer and more up to date. PC Wizard 2010 will identify all chipsets from MB, Audio, Video, LAN, usb, bluetooth etc
