Windows 7 is finally dying

I still don't understand how so many people are against Windows 10. Yes, I had some bad luck with the OS when it first released in 2015, but in the past 3 years, I've had little to no problems - both at home and at work. Windows 7 was an absolute powerhouse in its day, but it's time to move on. You adapt or you perish

1) No control over updates (Yes, I know it's supposedly being changed)
2) Updates frequently break stuff, or completely hose the OS.
3) Heavy Internet Usage (Updates do not download incrementally, but will frequently restart at beginning).
4) OS configuration settings moved or changed and put in different places.
5) Half the Control configuration is in the Tiled environment, and the other half in the Desktop environment.
6) Networking features broken from Windows 7.
7) Win 10 often goes into "search mode" and takes a few minutes to complete the search before allowing you to change stuff. For example Devices and Printers Tab used to open immediately in Win7. In Win10 it can take 3 minutes to open up.
8) Microsoft Outlook (Office 365) configuration in Win10 has changed completely and some settings have now been moved to the default Mail app in Win10 and others have been assigned new Ctrl Key combinations.
9) Some apps in Win 10 still display in blurred mode, and fixing them is a pain - https://bit.ly/2OYNhwN
10) The cost of the OS is exorbitant and over priced, not much difference between Pro and Home versions.
11) Physical media support is lacking, some DVD and CD functions completely removed.
12) Installed footprint and disk usage is crazy, the OS chews up your hard disk space.
13) Windows 10 Telemetry - this OS is spying on you more than ever before.
14) Can no longer enter Safe mode using F8.
15) System Restore not enabled by default. You have to go turn it on. Usually it's too late when you need it.
16) File opening with the wrong default apps, changing it requires extra steps and Win 10 discourages you.
17) Windows Store is a buggy and malware filled wasteland.
18) This isn't really part of Win 10, but Microsoft's Account handling procedures between Office and Skype are a nightmare, and many people have ended up with orphaned accounts or multiple logins.

Wow... Do you keep a list of all the things you hate about Windows 10, or do you just hate it that much that you have a list ready for recollection when someone asks you about it? :P

My response on your list:

1. Doesn't bother me as much at home and we have a WSUS server at work that helps with this.
2. I think I've had one or two issues with updates breaking stuff. Nothing major.
3. I don't have the same problem.
4. Yes, this is annoying.
5. I don't mind this that much.
6. No, I haven't had any problems with networking in Windows 10 that I can recall.
7. Agreed! Devices and Printers take an eternity on certain machines. Not all though
8. I haven't had major any issues with Outlook (Exchange 365). Don't use the Mail app at work, only at home.
9. Weirdly, I've never had an issue with this.
10. Yes, but the problem came from previous versions of Windows. Windows 7 and 8 were also priced quite high.
11. You still use CD/DVD's?
12. Started with Windows 8, but not really a problem unless you're still running with a 160GB HDD or a 120GB SSD.
13. Yes, agreed. Not a major concern for me at this point. It's not like I'm doing something illegal I need to worry about. *waves at the NSA*
14. Yep. This is a big screw up from MS.
15. Yeah, okay. Good point.
16. They really need to remove Edge from Windows 10. Always wanting to open PDF files...
17. I don't use the Windows store, so not a problem for me.
18. Agreed. MS should work on this.

Went back to windows 7 last Friday, no stupid bugs and stupid updates from windows 10.

Windows 10 regularly screws up on my machine.
Only reason I don't load 7 is because manufacturers refused to release drivers for it.
If the software I need ran on linux, I would drop windows 10 in a heartbeat.
Hate is too kind a word.
Laptop presumably. A lot of manufacturers don't release updated drivers for Win7. What I had to do was go to websites for the individual components. Never been happier.

Adapting is fine when it's natural progression. It doesn't work when it's forced by what corporates thinks it should be. They're often so out of touch with what users want or the way the world is progressing. It's this delusional view of reality that would ultimately push people towards opensource solutions. If it was truly about adapting MS would finally be implementing things the way they are in Linux instead of coming up with half baked solutions that shown to be utter crap and even they don't know how to handle.

A good thing about Windows 10:
- It ****ing knows to use the wired LAN and doesn't insist on using wifi all the time
- It hides the wifi password while typed in

Good things about newer Windows 10:
- It now displays printers fast when they are installed
- One can now easily forget wifi networks

What I miss about Win 7:
- The ability to untick the connect automatically, so that if you add a wifi, it's connection is gone and forgotten when one restarts/disconnects

Windows 10 does have that function

Yes, but you miss the fact that the person can still connect to it later, it has permanence. In Win 7 if you untick that when connecting to the network for the first time, the network credentials are lost when one disconnects or restarts, which I used a lot, now I have to remember to Forget a network if I do not want the laptop to be able to connect to it again.

Windows 10 would cause lest problems on Update/Upgrades if more people sub to insider ring:

Everyone just run update on release and wonder why Microsoft did not pick up bug x or y..... but I don't want to join Insider Track or even let their systems send Feedback info cause you know "Privacy".

Switching back to Win 7 for a while just showed me how slow it is compared to Win 10 on the same machine.
Some people just don't like change and will stick with the old for as long as they can.

Wrong assessment. People don't like participating in finding bugs.

They will change when product becomes more stable. As long as automatic updates are enforced (hijacking your property), it indicate unstable product, people stay away.

For an unstable product, it doesn't crash at all...

I would love to see what a stable product is classified as then.

No look, I don't mind updates... I understand why they are necessary.... but this thing updates more often than a Paris runway model. it's ludicrous how often this thing wants to do updates. And it chews through the bandwith like an Amazon Termite.

.LOL.

However ... I don't understand why forced updates are acceptable.
