Windows 7 not updating

Luckily I don't spend my time staring at settings/CP all the time. Windows search/Cortana wil take care of that anyway.
Ordinary search button doesn't work. It is unable to find even internal commands. And you talk about Cortana nonsense...

reinstall it again
Make sure your antivirus program is up-to-date, run it, then disable it before installing Windows 7 RC. When you finish the installation, remember to re-enable the antivirus program.

I had the same problem on my own machine after a clean install and on a new laptop with Windows 7 on.

I followed all the threads to no avail - All the advice left me running for a day searching for updates and nothing happening - it had installed a few but after that no go.

I found the fix which is (I think - hard drive died a couple of weeks later): Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64.msu - download from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53332

After that hundreds of updates came through.

None of these working for me.. any other tips? msu downloads sit on "searching for windows updates" all night

"I managed to find the real solution to this 8007000e windows update problem."

Had this error # come up when trying to do updates for the first time on a PC I'd reinstalled Win7 on about a year ago - hadn't bothered trying to do any updates due to all the probs. people had been experiencing. Only had Bit Defender doing its thing in the background.

In case anyone else experiences this issue, I found this solution :

I managed to find the real solution to this 8007000e windows update problem. And its darn simple too.
First of all, you do not need to switch off any firewall or windows defender or even anti virus programs.

Just follow the below steps:
1) Click Start
2) Type in Component Services
3) Select Services
4) Scroll down to 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service'
5) Right click and select Properties
6) Select Automatic instead of Automatic (Delayed Start)
7) Scroll down to 'Windows Update'
8) Right click and select Properties
9) Select Automatic instead of Automatic (Delayed Start)
10) Select Ok

Exit
Run the windows update again!
DONE !!

I rebooted the PC, and the first time I checked for updates, they came through (after only a few minutes).

EDIT : the link to the relevant thread (need to scroll down the pg. for the post) :
