I loaded Windows 7 this weekend, and in loading my games, I've noticed the following games don't work (straight up) with Windows 7.

Halo 2

To get Halo 2 working, I had to drag the 'startup.exe' file to my desktop, make it run in VISTA SP2 compatibility mode and then once the game was installed, I had to make the HALO2 file run in the same mode.

Game working!

Brothers In Arms - Hells Highway

Also didn't work, to fix it, I had to goto NVidia's site and download 9.09.0814 (release date 2009.08.14) of it's NVIDIA PhysX System Software to get the game working.

If I find any others, I'll add, if anyone else finds any, please add how you got the game working!

Thanks!

My Desperado's 2: Coopers Revenge didn't want to work no matter what I tried (patched to 1.01, setting compatibility options, running administrator, howling at the moon while naked)...

I found a crack and it worked first time...another reason piracy hurts us that buy the original games (although on the other hand the game turned out to be less than enjoyable...so meh).

Oh, PS: I'm running the 64 bit version of 7.

Are you running RC1, RC2 or RTM of Windows 7?

I have noticed all of these versions ran differently and some stuff worked on one but not the other.

If you really really want to get around these issues, you should disable UAC (User Access Control) and DEP (Data execution prevention) , but disabling this is definitely not recommended and will leave your computer vulnerable to all sorts of viruses etc...

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare doesn't wanna work now!

iw3mp.exe has stopped working

Anyone know a fix for this?

yes, on some hardware there seem to be an issue, but with a easy fix:
1.Go to Start then Control Panel
2.Double click on the Sound Tool
3.Click on the Recording tab
4.Right click and select "View Disabled Devices"
5.Enable the Stereo Mix

hope it helps:D

This didn't work!
I can use Google too hey!
I also renamed the one file (which kills the music in the game) and that didn't work either... damn it!

Beyond Good & Evil doesn't work in Win7 either. At the end of the three-disc installation, Tages (DRM) drivers can't install so it uninstalls everything.

I love DRM :)

Have you tried running the install (drag a short cut to your desktop) and setting compatibility mode onto XP with SP 3?

I had to do this to Halo 2 to get it to work, but obviously, I chose Vista with SP 2 - ultimately it worked :)

That is if you do more than you should on the internet.

For people who dont really do much on the net beside the usual, its ok to turn it off. Been running mine foe about 3 months, all off and no virus program, everything stil awsome

Do you have a Digital output in your sound settings, well if you do try disabling that.

i have a problem with battlefield 2.

about 5 or 10 mins into the game, it just freezes with a bbbbrrrzzzzzzz sound. have to reset.
sometimes it will happen within the first 30 seconds, and sometimes it does'nt happen at all, its very random.

I tried updating sound drivers, checked event viewer and no log of the actual error. gfx drivers 190.62

I'd try compatibility mode first, then do driver updates for everything on the PC.

I haven't tried BF2 lately (since installed 7) or BF2142 for that matter.

i tried all compatibilty modes, still a no go for me.

tried googling, but never find the right solution, and most forums are dated too far back with no wondows 7 solution,

all my drivers are up to date.

its strange that it happens sometimes and not always, and there is no error message to help me find a fix

I tried installing Mass Effect. No luck. The 1st time it installed fine, but when you start the game for the 1st time it just crashes. Tried the compatibility mode for Vista and XP. No Luck.

I uninstalled it and tried again. Switched off virus protection, marked file to be run in compatibility mode and run as administrator. Nothing, Nada. Just gives me an error message and exits the install.

I googled this error, specifically Mass Effect, and came up with a few threads with the same problem. I am running Windows 7 64bit RC.

I just gave up and gave it to my brother who installed it on his XP machine with no problems . . . Pity

Mass Effect sux big time, took me hours to get it working on my old Vista32. Have not bothered on Windows7. Change the install directory from program files to your root C: then after installing right click on the mass effect folder and uncheck read only.
