Prophecy and Taketwo have put up their pricing for win 7.

Prophecy only has dsp's up so far. http://www.prophecy.co.za/-c-131_132_358_1087.html

Taketwo claims theirs is full retail. Can someone explain to me how their full retail is the same price as prophecy's dsp?? Surely the dsp is suppose to be cheaper?? I don't want to place an order and then find out their info was totally out and I got a dsp copy instead of full retail.

DSP = Sold with hardware with certain restrictions
Full Retail = Sold independently - License can be moved around/assigned between machines and sold separately without restriction (Obviously a single instance at any one time)

I know the difference between the two. That's not the question. The question whether that pricing for the full retail listing by taketwo sounds correct or whether they have confused the dsp and retail since prophecy's dsp pricing is pretty much the same as taketwo's retail pricing.

PC Zones has Ultimate for R1799

DSP or Retail??

Stefan, presume you are busy comparing some prices for W7. Would you mind please posting your findings, as I am sure a lot of us are poised to make the purchase ourselves.

What I found is. TakeTwo,Zaps and Kalahari is listing the same price range for the full retail of home premium. Still can't quite believe this price but all 3 can't be wrong. They are listing it as R1290 - R1375 with Taketwo having the cheapest price. Zaps and Prophecy list the dsp as R1100-R1142.

Waiting for prophecy to get their retail copies on the site so I can preorder from them since I have vouchers I want to redeem.

Zaps have both DSP and Retail versions up:

MICROSOFT DSP WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 32BIT SUPPORT 2 CPU AND 4GB MEMORY OPERATING SYSTEM FRSF-MDW7U32
: R2005.00

MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 32+64BIT SUPPORT 2 CPU AND 192GB MEMORY OPERATING SYSTEM FRSF-MW7U
: R 2256.00

Might as well go retail if its only a few bucks more (unlike vista's double or even triple).

Wonder why 64 bit is more expensive, less used or what?

Zaps have both:

MICROSOFT DSP WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 32BIT SUPPORT 1 CPU AND 4GB MEMORY OPERATING SYSTEM FRSF-MDW7HP32

MICROSOFT DSP WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64BIT SUPPORT 1 CPU AND 16GB MEMORY OPERATING SYSTEM FRSF-MDW7HP64

For: R1102

The above is Retail vs DSP :D

Why does Zaps list Home Premium as "1 CPU" support and the pro and ultimate a "2 CPU"

Does that have anything to do with dual core and quad core cpu's or are they talking physically seperate CPU's?

I think you are misreading something. As far as I can tell the 32 bit dsp is the same price as the 64 bit dsp. The retail copy which has both 32 bit and 64 bit disc in is +-R200 more.

Well home premium cannot run more than one cpu (not cores but cpu)

So home premium could not run skulltrail while the other 2 could, not really a big deal as people who run those systems won't buy the cheaper version of windows 7 anyhow. Majority of people do not run 2 cpu's anyhow.

Ah ok thanks. Ordered Home premium and that just confused me as I have a dual core CPU and thought that it won't be supported fully in HP.

No its preorders. Will be out on the 22 October.

Hmm. I have been to a company last Friday. Chaos all over the place as all Pc's got upgraded. They also had WIN 7 Home and Pro there (Original packaging - had it in my hands).
So where did they score that from?

Afaik it has been released to system builders? But the actual retail release to the public is only on thw 22

Some people obviously get things early. The company most likely has a close relationship with ms.

The fact's are no retailer is selling the product to the public till 22 October since that's the world wide release date.
