For the sake of sharing information and avoiding future confusion on the matter. Would you mind posting the clearer help in the thread as well?
My knowledge on Microsoft's activation technologies start from the Windows XP era till Windows 7. I studied up a bit on Windows 8 but got bored because they locked it up too tight.
Windows 7 activates using more or less 3 methods:
1. Retail/DSP type activation that works by generating a machine code based on your hardware combined with your unique product key. (Typically when someone buys Windows 7 from a shop or bought it with a qualifyng piece of hardware.)
2. Volume activation via KMS (typically in large companies.)
3. OEM activation using a marker in the BIOS that verifies the existence of a matching certificate and key that will be found on the recovery media supplied with a computer (typically when you buy a brand name computer e.g. Asus, Lenovo, Acer etc.
For the purpose of clearing this up, i’ll briefly explain method 3:
When you buy a brand name PC , the PC is supplied to you already activated. This is achieved by the manufacturer using a tool that adds a special marker to the BIOS that identifies it as a brand name PC. The manufacturer ensures that the computer is supplied with recovery software, either in a recovery partition or as CD/DVD’s (a while back). These DVD’s contain a digital certificate that's specific to that manufacturer and therefore cannot be used on another brand name without reverting Windows to trial mode. When Windows detects the BIOS marker, it automatically installs this certificate and a product key for that specific version of Windows. This means that if you install Windows 7 Pro, then you need a Pro key. However, this key is a special OEM key and only works with this method of activation. Also, this key can be used on any brand of OEM PC, as long as it matches the Windows version. Once the certificate and key is installed, then Windows activates without need of being on the internet or phoning.
This means that you can use this method to install Windows 7 on your OEM PC and thereby remove all the bloatware that the OEMS love to fill up you computer with. Clean instal, zero bloatware, activated and fully legal.
I'm not going to post links to the keys or certificates here because i'm not going to get involved with people attempting to use this method for piracy. Google can be used for more information.
