Hi

I'm really battling to find a well seeded torrent for this. Only one I found didn't have sp1 built in which I need.

I have a legal cdkey

Would I be able to download the ultimate version instead and use the professional key we got? It will just scale back on the features?

If not, a good spot I can download this then?

Do a search for I think windows iso. Microsoft have a downloadable version off one of their sites. If you dont come right, will post a link in the morning

No. You can't download Ultimate and use your Pro key, won't work. Unless you have an AIO ISO, (All in one).

Why don't you just get the 7 Pro ISO and load SP1 afterwards if your searching skills are failing you?

SP1 is like 600Mb or something and quite fast to install. The updates afterwards takes aeons in any case.

Thanks for the advice

Gonna try find an AIO then

Battling to find details professional even... Thought I had but it was actually home

Yep. I would rather download from Tun@'s links.

I have bought an ASUS laptop with came with Windows 8.1. Some programs require Windows 7 and will not work on Windows 8. The shop quotes R 2000 to install Windows 7 professional and no refund or allowance for Windows 8.

Is this practice correct?

Complete thread hijack by the way. I think a new thread would have sufficed.

No. I hardly believe any program that works on Windows 7 would NOT work on Windows 8. Windows 8 is actually exactly built from 7, hence the core is the same and hence it would be compatible.

Try installing the Software in Windows 7 Compatibility. Try Launching it in Windows 7 Compatibility and running it as Administrator as well if that fails as well.

Make sure the Software is patched and up to date as well.

The Shop looks like it's trying to make a quick buck.

Well, poster # 15, last time I asked a question I was told it had already been covered, so spent some time looking for an answer before posting my question

Shadley Simons (Chaos Computers Claremont) says this is very bad advice. When you get a new laptop, it is pre-installed with Windows 8 and the product key is locked to that computer. Since the product key has already been used, it cannot be used again. To show me, he called Microsoft on the phone and quoted the product key in use on one of their demo computers. The lady said it was registered to use with one computer and could not be re-used anywhere else.

So what?

90% of all equipment and computers/laptops sold today are OEM manufactured which means the product key and license is tied to the specific device. It's part of life. You can't will it away or change it. I couldn't care two hoots what he says or what he deems bad advice is. It's the way the world works. If something breaks, you replace it, it's cheaper and more economical. You don't just buy a laptop, format it and buy a Retail version of Windows at R2000 because you need a transferable Windows License. For what purpose? To load on your next Laptop? To load on your Desktop? To load it on into infinity? Why? Windows 9 is already on our doorstep, why tie yourself down to old tech.

Windows 7 apps are compatible with Windows 8 as I already stated.

You don't need an AIO ISO. Open the the Ultimate ISO with any application that supports ISO's e.g. PowerISO, find ei.cfg and delete. Save the ISO and burn to DVD if required. Removing ei.cfg unlocks all the Windows 7 editions and the Professional key the OP already has will work.

I've tried that in the past and failed miserably. Doesn't always work.
