Windows 7 scarce in SA

I can't believe people are willing to throw their money at such a dead horse. It's called Ubuntu people and 9.10 is coming out today.

Throw away your crippled expensiveware and come to the land of the free, the land of the forwardslashes.

Ubuntu does windows networking better than windows does windows networking.

In other news, retailers regularly fail to gauge their market's needs, which leads to purchasing the wrong products to on-sell and stock shortages of popular products.

Then end result is an increase in the price of the products being sold, to defray the money wasted on un-popular products, and to take advantage of the market that is desperate to get their hands on popular product.

It's a loose-loose for the customer, and the lube is no longer free either.

Windows is more userfriendly to the average consumer, and they have the market share. Linux should become easier to use and able to play windows games, which is holding it back. And theres hundreds of other reasons.

I'm a linux user, and not a windows fanboi.

not the time and place buddy....

if everytime something good [or bad] is said bout MS and you come with your fanboi attitude [of YAY ubuntu Totally RULZ, MS SUCKS], then you are going to put legitimate people wanting to try ubuntu off it....

btw... i use both, so please don't tell me i don't know what im talking about [in fact i'm using Ubuntu 9.04, RHEL 5, and OpenSUSe]

Why can't we not just download it and buy a license key online? All the anti-piracy people keep going on about how software is intellectual property and that you just lease the software on the disk, so why is the disk even important? Why do we need to wait for physical copies to be shipped?

I do not understand????

With the volumes being discussed in the article no wonder there is a shortage. Even small time PC stores need to keep at least a dozen copies of a single OS version just to service their PC sales. (This is from my experience managing a small PC store)

Come on, 40 copies of a new product. How few South Africans are actually buying this OS then. M$ might get lucky and sell a 1000 units by Christmas.

You can ;)

This is only retail

I thought that at 1st, but remember this is only retail to the public. It doesn't take into account the OEM and Volume Licensing market ... now that's much larger.

I'm sticking with my RC until it expires and (hopefully) by then my company will fund my Laptop's v7 654 bit. My home PC is quite happy on Win XP Pro & Ubuntu 9.10 beta. Once support for XP stops I'll just wipe that partition & my family will then be FORCED to learn Linux :p ... I'm not buying another OS again ... ever!

Niggah please.

My friend tried to buy it online, but he said that since he's not from the US, he couldn't buy it online. He eventually resorted to take2.co.za, which took only a few days to deliver. I would appreciate it if anyone can provide a legit link to where you can buy a license online & then download a copy of it.

LOL. I was also wondering about it.

That made me smile. I imagined you with a doo-rag (spelling?) and a large diamond-encrusted gold dollar sign medallion around your neck.

Win7 is going to be awesome. Provided your computer has the ability to run this thing chuck your XP (and ESPECIALLY your Vista) and get a copy of Win7.

For those who want to start a linux-MS fanboi war again...just use what you want to use people.

That being said though Win7 is ridiculously expensive.
