Windows 7 simplifies release, upgrade path

Moving away from MS

We have started a project in my small co now to very firmly move to OS software on all our machines. The 2 most prominent difficulies will be/are the learning curve and to find a suitable book keeping system to replace Windows based pastel (before finantial year end - Feb). So for me and my business the smooth upgrade to M$ OS's is something of the past :)

Hahaha, funny! Today, about 10 people told me that there will be only 2 versions. Not that I really care.
I think two versions are enough; Windows 7 Server and Windows 7 Workstation.

Which sane person pays over R500 for software? I think Microsoft are going to make the price of Windows 7 in excess of R2000. I'd rather spend R2000 on hardware.

I like to think I'm sane and I pay over R500.00 for software. I also disagree with software piracy.

It's taken thousands of software engineers millions of hours to code an incredibly complex, full featured operating system.

I'm platform agnostic and fully understand why some people prefer Linux and other OS software, just don't bitch about how rubbish Windows is and then pirate it.

To get back on topic though, I believe tha Microsoft would be better off with three versions - Low Cost netbook, Home/Small office and Enterprise.

+1 (although there is some software that is worth spending money on but nothing that M$ makes).
I wanted to get a new PC for the longest time but the cost of having to buy a new copy of Windows (still R1000 for a DSP version) kept me from doing so, it just felt like such a waste.
In May last year I decided to do it anyway and try out Ubuntu and buy Windows later if I needed it. Still have no motivation to buy Windows and I think I'll be sticking to Ubuntu for some time to come. I should note I'm a gamer and I found that (with a little tweaking) 80% of my purchased games work on Ubuntu so I spent the extra money on a graphics card.

And yet, with all that money and "brilliant" expertise available to them, you'd think that they would be able to spit out some "half decent" code by now? They never have (except for Excel) and they still can't !!! IE8 is not even out the starting blocks yet and it is already the slowest in the race:

It is just as "inherently flawed" as their OS is:

I don't expect Windows 7 to be much of an improvement given this heritage, but I do expect it to be better than that bluddie Vista krapp.
