Windows 7 to redeem Vista?

Screw multi touch, screw ALL those fancy pants features, the people have spoken Microsoft! Develope something that is simple, effective, functional and powerful.
 
lol. Vista also sounded promising before they launched it...
Seeing will be believing. If M/S messes Win 7 up, it will give the Ubuntu team the chance they've been looking for...

Should I remember you that there is this language called English? Do you speak it?

Anyway... Don't know why they're building on Vista when they should actually be building on XP.
 
Thats what you get from a monopoly. They released vista and tried to hype over all its flaws and shortcomings. Now after they can't sucker people into using it anymore, they just expect everyone to buy into the new operating system..

I won't believe any of their promises

Vista has a way better Kernel than XP, it's near perfect as far as my research goes. Apparently the Kernel is the only thing that's right about Vista...;)
 
I still don't see what all the fuss is about. I have been working with computers since the DOS days (and later linux), and Vista is not all that bad. Sure, you need fairly recent hardware with plenty of RAM, but this is the same scenario when XP came out. Every iteration of windows needs a bit more, but also delivers a bit more.

Between all the people that I know that run Vista, all the installations are stable and very responsive, granted all run with at least 2GB of RAM. UAC is a small annoyance, but easy to live with. I still think people just complain about Vista because they try to find something wrong with it, again this was the case with every windows release.

Agreed. And when they can't find something, they will say it's because it's a Microsoft product
 
Ok since you say theres nothing really wrong with vista try this one.

Connect to a Cisco router using Vista.

Tell me again after you try that little common task that theres nothing wrong with it.

Vista is fine if you only use your computer to switch on and not do anything. As soon as you start trying to play a game (half of them wont run as they not compatible) or do anything really you start hitting issues. And dont even get me started on the DRM built into the pos.

One other thing. A clean install of XP SP2 uses about 400 MB of RAM, this is fine. A clean install of Vista idles at over 1.6 GB. 4 x more than XP, that i am sorry is just absolute carp. they can take vista and shove it somewhere thesun dont shine

Even Windows ME ran on the hardware of it's day.... and it has no stupid DRM or activation crap. It just suffered from bugs from day one, but they were repaired shortly after. Me does not deserve its bad rap as much as Vista does. A year or two after I ran ME quite successfully on several machines.

agh no please... let's not start this up again.

Many of us have used an liked MS products frequently throughout our whole lives. I had a problem with ME when it first came out... but later I ran it quite successfully.

Vista on the other hand is the first one I intend to give a complete miss.

Your statement about it being just because it is Microsoft is off the mark. Why do you think we are waiting around to see what Windows 7 is like???

If your statement was true... we wouldn't even be in this thread.

It's not off the mark. It's been done many times. And BTW, let's wait for Windows 7 and see what people say...
