Okay, So I've been using Windows 7 for quite some time, and it's truly Vista done right - Stability, Performance, Compatibility (Except for my Microsoft Webcam) the list goes on...

I would like to know, has anyone used the "upgrade" functionality of Win7? From, say Vista? - Are there any major problems (i.e Data loss, loss of programs)

My Brother wants Win7 From Vista U x86, but he cannot do a clean install (1TB harddrive with stuff)... so we want to know if Win7 is stable when "Upgrading" The OS'es

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: The Upgrade paths are from Vista x86 Ultimate to Windows 7 x86 Ultimate build 6262

I did an upgrade from vista first time round. Everything stayed exactly the same except for that it was slow as turtle ****... was so bad that I formatted within 3 days and now it is perfect.

I'm going to do a clean install tonight. Format, the whole story. You know what I mean.

I have Windows 7.127. Should this one be fine? I don't want to download 7.264 now and in a months time the RTM version again.

Build 7124 is ok, no needed to download build 7264 unless you really want to see what the RTM would look like.

The rtm version is out 13 july 2009.

I did an upgrade from Vista home premium 32bit and everything went silky smooth with no problems to speak of. Not having to reinstall all my games and applications was a blessing :).

FYI My home Pc install went 100%... besides taking over an hour to install on a Quad Core... My friend mrlgm007 wasn't so lucky... as he will explain shortly...

That was a clean x86 install of Win 7 Build 6262, so far,I've had one BSOD in 3 weeks. Reason: It seems Win7 still has a problem with Intel's ACPI (Power Control Functions like Sleep [S3] or Hibernate[S4]), since then resuming windows from sleep takes about 7 minutes. But otherwise the system is very stable, and fast.

Hi guys ,

I had vista sp2 buizz installed and tried to do a upgrade to win 7 build 7264 , it came up with 3 different programs that would need to be reinstalled and was logmein, ut 3 , and two other things cant remember now and way i continued with the upgrade and took for ever it then.

Restarted and was transferring settings ect ect and then the upgrade restarted and came up with the that previous os was being restored this took about 20 min and then restarted again and said that i must contact there web site and look at the upgrade adviser , i then took all my other hdd out and unpluged usb ect ect and did another upgrade and then all it was was a BSOD and then the pc was DEAD.

Would not start in vista or in safe mode so then I Formatted it and 20 min later i was in win 7 and it has been great all my drivers ect ect working even my printer so yes windows seven it looking perfect for me so far .....

regards mrlgm007
