Windows 7 versus Ubuntu 9.10

In Ubuntu's case one of its assets is the work done to support netbook PCs. Ubuntu's Netbook Remix interface is a very slick alternative for the smaller screen space common on netbooks.

I'm keen to give both operating systems the benefit of the doubt but I must say I'm currently loving Windows 7 on my new rig.

Karmic is also expected to have improved audio capabilities which will be an important development.

I hope to finally have out the box support for my X-fi card! It's been 3 damn years of compiling broken modules for me :(

Have you tried Windows 7?

Lol, yes I have and I love it, but would really like to switch over to Linux on my home PC. Only problem is my sound card hasn't been very well supported, Creative withheld the driver source or some such rubbish.

I've tried both Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Win 7 RC on my Aspire One (now with HDD and 1.5GB RAM) and I'm in favour of Win 7. Never thought I'd say those words.

It really seems like Microsoft have pulled out all the stops with Win7. It is looking like one of the best Windows OSes ever.

Although considering the mess Vista was they really didn't have a choice.

Karmic is going to be awesome as well, have they switched to ext4 as the default filesystem yet? That thing is wicked fast.

The article is wrong, 10.04 is the next LTS version.

I'm very impressed with both operating systems.

Win7 has improved where Vista totally sucked.
and Ubuntu just keeps getting better.

So I applaud both sides of the spectrum here. I can't say anything about OSX yet because I've never tried it, I wish Apple would release a liveCD of OSX or a virtualised demo version - I've pondered getting a Mac a few times, but it's more about the OS (which I can't play with) and less about the hardware.

I know you can get hacked ISOs for OSX, but it'd be a huge favour to Apple if they could do the liveCD/VM thing.

Windows 7 runs pretty well. Being using it on my work laptop for month now. No issues
