I am having the strangest problem with Windows 7:

If I copy a file from my laptop to my desktop PC and vice versa, both of which have the RC of Windows 7 installed, the file copies like normal, but if it has to overwrite an existing file with the same name at the destination, it doesn't carry over the latest information of the file.

For example:

I work on a word doc on my laptop during the day, and if I make a backup copy to the desktop pc later, windows informs me that the file already exists, and ask if I want to overwrite it? If I select 'Yes' and the copy proceeds, when I check the file on the desktop PC afterwards, it still only has the older copy of the file.

Any suggestions?

Delete the previous version, or use version numbers, as one should. ie mydocv2_1.doc and later that day mydocv2_2.doc

I know this doesn't "fix" your problem, but i'm sure it is a sensible work-around.

Suggestion: Don't run RC software in a production environment :p

Yes, I agree that would have been a sensible idea in the 'old' days, but since the 'previous versions' facility came to be that eliminated the need for keeping multiple copies of the same document just so that you can revert to an earlier version should you need to.

Also, what really happens is that I have SyncToy on the laptop which automatically syncs the files to the desktop. This usually works just fine, except for this time where the newer file is copied, but the older file on the desktop is not overwritten with the newer version.

Taking a flyer here and I may be off the point :) But does it use VSS? If so, try to reset the cache, or check for other VSS errors?
