Windows 7 x64 KB974431 update failure

When trying to install the latest Windows 7 update (KB974431) via windows update or a manual install, I get the error "failure configuring windows updates... reverting changes" while windows starts up after a reboot following the update install.

Is anyone getting the same error?

Had the same issue. Later Windows did another update, but I couldn't be bothered with what update it was.

I've found a solution for this error, whoop!
All that needs to be done is the Windows update agent needs to be updated to the latest version and then the update installs fine
x86:

Is there anyone who can tell me why this update is causing crc errors on my system?

I have installed it on two occasions and every time after install I detect CRC errors on my system. I have clearly identified this update as the culprit
