Windows 7 X64

and I am in agreement, the accelerators on IE 8 actually makes my little puny 384kbs line feel like a 512 line :) Its definitely faster...huh!

i installed crysis just after the OS install and it picked up everything except a single PCI controller, otherwise it went flawlessly. The game plays without any switches and so far it works beautifully, well done Bill, for once I think MS may just have a good product here.
Nice little extra features like the Theme packs are nice and the slide show background thing is just great.....I am sufficiently impressed

Doesn't windows 7 just optimize which applications are prioritized. For example in XP and VISTA, windows updates and the like always have a higher priority which causes a delay in gaming latency download speeds etc. as windows is continuously sending little packets out on their own mission (maybe not noticeable but has an effect).

Only thing I'm missing is the Aero thingy (part of it).
Bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium on it. Immediately canned it and installed Windows 7 64-bit. Updated all drivers and all seems fine so far.

PS EDIT: ID-10-T error. Oops. Got it sorted.

My machine absolutely LOVES windows 7....

I also think its a pretty good effort for a RC...

I have not enjoyed a Windows release like this since going from Win98 to XP. Loving it. And my 6GB RAM is finally recognised by the 64 bit install :)

can one run W7 - 64bit on normal hardware? or do you require 64-bit hardware?

You have to run it on 64 bit hardware, if your cpu or mobo is not 64 bit capable you cannot run 64 bit for obvious reasons, this should only affect laptops and oldish pc's.

:)

A Brand new PC is "old" after 3 months.

Is there anyway to test or find out if your hardware is 64-bit compliant?

HP DC7700p CMT

checked the HP website and they have the Vista 64bit drivers and all, so i take it that it should be fine.

It will work fine. I just wiped everything on my new HP laptop and replaced with 64-bit version. Updated drivers and working like a charm.

good lord, i only got around to installing W7-RC 64-bit and the ATI drivers so far, and it's flying compared to my vista business edition. :)

will play more tonight.

Finally got around to installing Windows 7 RC x64. Pity it doesn't support my old Creative SBLive! soundcard, but the SupremeFX riser card seems to be working fine.

Almost as fast as Windows XP, I'm quite impressed.
