Well not just a simple calculator, or the desktop one included in Accessories.

In Windows 8.1, Microsoft has gone above and beyond the basic desktop calculator with this new modern-style app. The basic math functions are still there, but users can also switch to a scientific calculator. With the unit converter, users can calculate volume, length, weight, temperature, energy, area, speed, time, power, and data.

So its something aimed at Tablet/Touch users, and in that view its way better than the default included in iOS/Android.

Got it off MSDN last week, not that bad. Takes some getting used to. Will upgrade my workstation once Enterprise comes out.

On low power devices it does make a positive difference in performance. I have a AMD E350 at home and it is faster on 8.1 than it was on 7.
