Windows 8.1 Update

So I have had my new notebook for a month.

Ran all the updates... upgraded to 8.1 and again close to 1.5gb of updates since.

Yesterday it started acting up. I purposely waited until after the 8.1 update to create recovery media.

No Cigar though.

After restore I am back to Windows 8.

Now the main reason for the restore was since installing my Vodacom E220 modem, OS became slow and unstable. Also I could no longer access MS updates server.

After my fresh installation I still cannot download any updates.

Our IT provider, ITEvalution offered to take my machine and update it for me.

Last night I tried to update also... over 3G. R40 worth of nitebundles purchased. 4gb.

I installed KB 2871389 and proceeded to Win Store. After about an hour the download was still at 2%.

I elected to give up and test my connection.

I managed speeds on Utorrent up to 800kbps and downloaded a pre activated 8.1pro iso within 2 hours.

At work on the 384kbps line I only got to 1 percent after 3 hours.

Microsoft AmswerDesk was of no help. They tried for 2 hours today to get my windows updates working... they can log in remotely a-ok so why are the updates not working?

It cannot be both my connections. Just recieved error again. uploadfromtaptalk1410458156024.jpg

E220 modem?

Is that not the old fat modem, that came out pre-vista?

Download the latest firmware, hunt down an XP pc. remove sim, cancel xp pc trying to install the modem, update firmware.

warning:
sim must be out
warning:
make sure you get the correct modem model. if your DLed firmware is wrong you can brick the modem.

Download 8.1 ISO
Do a clean install with this key during the setup: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB
After installing, change the key to your legit Windows 8 key in System
Activate windows

This is what I did when I got a new SSD and decided to do a clean install, worked fine for me.

Thanks for this, I am having the same issue as the OP - will download this .iso and upgrade from there.

Is that a single language key? And will the activation accept my oem key?

I managed to tether from my cellc sim... downloaded at 6mbps most of the night it looks like.

I am in the restarting stage of the 8.1 update.

Lets hope I do not get the "Failed to apply updates" that happened the last 2 times I did this.
 
I will try find my notes on the 8.1 update.

I originally had similar issues, but then DLed them from MS, and installed individually.

I seem to remember trying each component and then DLing the one they(MS) said to DL first.

I'm not sure whether it will work for your Single Language version. Worked fine for my Pro version upgrade and my brother's retail Pro version. Is there a difference between the SL .iso and the Pro .iso?

Yes well I know there is a tutorial floating around sugg3sting something similar using an iso from microsoft (enterprise disc) but that cannot be used with SL.
 
Will a windows Image backup restore all updates also?

I managed to get all updates downloaded now... and I made a Windows System Backup.

So my understanding is that If I restore this is will restore my computer to exactly the way it was at time of backup. Including the win 8.1 update and all updates and apps already installed?
