Developers can now download a 90 day version of Windows 8 Enterprise.
The Windows 8 Enterprise 90-day evaluation is available to developers to build and test Windows 8 apps on the final version of Windows 8. After installing Windows 8, go to the Windows Dev Center developer downloads page to install Visual Studio 2012 and related tools to build Windows 8 apps.
About This Evaluation

This evaluation provides a 90-day trial of Windows 8 Enterprise edition. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available as ISO images in the following languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, English (UK), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. In order to use this evaluation, you must register and the product must be activated online with Microsoft-hosted activation and validation services. Microsoft does not provide technical support for this software.
Is the evaluation edition really for you?

This is intended for developers building Windows 8 apps and IT professionals interested in trying Windows 8 Enterprise on behalf of their organization. If you qualify under one of the following programs listed below, you may already have access to the final bits and do not need to download this 90-day evaluation.

Things to Know Before You Start

The evaluation edition will expire and cannot be upgraded.
To upgrade, the evaluation must be uninstalled and a non-evaluation version of Windows must be re-installed from your original installation media.
Consider running the evaluation edition in a virtual environment or installing on a separate hard drive or partition. The will allow you to upgrade your original Windows installation to Windows 8.
During registration (required) you must login with a Microsoft account and provide your name, e-mail address and country.
You are required to activate the product online within 10 days after installing.
Once the evaluation is installed, you cannot upgrade. To revert to a previous version of Windows, you must do a clean install from your original installation media.

I just finished downloading the RTM version and will install it on my laptop now. Windows 8 was released last night... not sure about the exact date for release to public... think somewhere in October.

RTM is out? Will download quick - thanks!

Off topic - anyone else trying out Office 2013 and also think it's quite kak that the programs don't have metro tiles and notifications?

Busy downloading it now. It's a shame that you can't just upgrade from the evaluation version. When the 90 days are up you have to uninstall and install again.

Oh well, will just have to do that then.

Dual boot is your friend, as always :) Downloaded last night on local TI bandwidth and started installing at 4 am this morning. Quite an interesting day, installed VS 2012 and Office 2013 also, Windows 7 looks so old now :D @unskinnybob: Don't be a glutton, there's enough new stuff for now ;0)

I'm still not a fan... but probably cause I'm not used to it yet. The one screen covers all with no close buttons or visible taskbar irritates the hell out of me.

My time to fiddle around on it is quite limited though as I'm covered with work. Tried opening Expression Blend just to look and it said I require a Developer's License to create new projects. No idea what the heck that is about (I haven't really been following news regarding Windows 8 and VS)... will investigate later.

Actually a cool version for testing Win 8. It's already activated and lasts for 90 days ans it the final version.

Is anyone having problems activating?

I keep getting Error code: 0x8007007B - the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

I can't use the method of slmgr.vbs /ipk {YOUR KEY HERE} slmgr.vbs /ato etc because I have no product key, afaik the RTM for developers does not require a key - at least that's what the email from Microsoft says when I signed in to download via my Live account.

Any ideas?

AFAIK it activates automatically, you don't need to do anything, it shows in "System" that it is activated.

Nah, mine says Not Activated and I get a watermark in the bottom right corner after a while.

I did the install last night using this iso:
9200.16384.120725-1247_x64frev_Enterprise_VL_HRM_CENA_X64FREV_EN-US_DVD.iso

md5 73ce7a432ba94afc2c7a4f05b507d8f1

I didn't download it from Microsoft since the java d/l kept crapping out on me.

What are the advantages of using Windows 8 over Windows 7

Mine is 9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247_X64FRE_ENTERPRISE_EVAL_EN-US-HRM_CENA_X64FREE_EN-US_DV5.iso, download on a capped TI account on local using DAP. Be careful of the other copies floating around, might be loaded with...

Yeah iirc this is one should be clean. I'm just wondering if there's a difference in the iso thats available for the RTM release for developers (what the OP is talking about) ie: perhaps the product key is included in the iso image.

the m$ downloader is working now, even resuming, so I will compare the ISOs and probably reinstall.

What are the advantages of using Windows 8 over Windows 7?

After three days of use there is a myriad of aspects I appreciate, here's a few:

  1. Boots much faster with the same startup options I had in 7
  2. Really like the new Windows Explorer, missed those buttons since the got lost in Vista
  3. 4-year old lappy installed without a single driver problem
  4. CPU usage much lower and therefore lappy more quiet, BTW, task manager is a joy to use (if it's your kind of thing ;0)
  5. Boots with Metro (New Windows...) on main screen and desktop on external, like it that way!
  6. I do like the new minimalistic UI, 7 looks so old fashioned now
  7. It only going to be $40 to upgrade, what the heck...

Enjoy :D
