Okay got it sorted, turns out my ISO was wrong, but working now.

Pros:
Boots fast.
Feels smoother, UI feels more responsive and snappier.
Various things under the hood which are good (that I've read anyway)

Cons:
Metro
I seem to have problems using Autohotkeys, a tool I use to assign various shortcuts like win+c ; win+t etc; for launching apps I use regularly (I'm a keyboard nazi, k)
I don't like the hot corners and mouse hovering crap.
It's really tedious to get to various system menus, control panel etc;
No start menu.
Lots and lots of UI changes that just piss me off.

I've used the dev and consumer preview before, I'll give the RTM some time to see if it grows on me.

In Win7 I like to smack the Windows key and then type, say "updates" to go to Windows Update or "features" to get to the Programs and Features. Granted I don't tweak my PC a lot once it's setup but I do often use things within control panel.

So now the 'start menu' in Windows 8 is slower to get to what I want.

On 8 I hit the Win key, metro pops up and I type "update", the search picks up 9 instances in the settings category, I press down arrow twice and hit enter, the focus will be on the first setting/app. Personally I find the search function very powerful!

Interestingly enough, shut-down + boot is faster than reboot. When you shut down certain settings are saved to disk as in hibernate, making startup faster. As you mentioned, hibernate start up faster than on 7.

Here's a nice trick, move your cursor to the left bottom and right-click, a list of options pop up such as command prompt (Admin) which is quite handy. So the hot corners got some advantages

Sad, but true.

You can create shortcuts on the Start page to practically anything including the Control Panel.

I like Windows 8 and the startup screen works well when you figure out the tricks but in my opinion it doesn't feel completely finished yet.

For instance in the Windows Store there's no search field. The only way that I seem to be able to get there is to press the Start button and the keyboard + Q. How any person will know that without any prior knowledge is beyond me.

Also it seems buggy. If I run the Raptr client then some apps will close the whole time, crashing to the Start screen. Maybe it's the Raptr client's fault but even then, how does a normal desktop app influence all my Metro apps?

Currently being forced to use IE on the Metro side of things (or whatever Metro is called these days) is also a problem. And on the desktop Firefox keeps crashing on some of my favourite sites.

Otherwise it's running well and I will definitely buy Win 8 upgrade when it's out. Hopefully the hiccups will be fixed by then.

@Solitude: I don't find much use for Windows Modern UI (goodness, it was easier to type metro ;0) ATM, suppose it will be handy when the pads come out. FF crashed at some stage and now I can't get it to run at all, not even in safe mode. Thinking of using Chrome, I really miss flash/add block...

Yeah I know that trick, it's just more tedious than Win7's start menu.

It really does feel like m$ slapped this together to compete with Apple.

Add to that the ability to just start typing a program/document's name on the Start menu, whether it's on the start menu or not, will trigger a search. Who wants to navigate a hierarchy anyhow?!

Actually I prefer the way Linux handles program groups.

ie:

Start\Internet\Firefox
or
Start\Media\VLC
or
Start\System\Power Manager

Which IMHO is way better than what Microsoft do. I'm no Linux fanboy (I don't like Gnome or KDE much abnymore) but I do like having my stuff sorted and easy to find.

Of the choices of desktop OS's Win 8, Win 7, XP, OS X, Linux: I prefer XP (with Google Desktop, KatMouse and AllSnap). I'll move to 7 next but will skip 8 like I skipped Vista.
