Windows 8 Pro Groupon special price extended

Thanks for all the feedback guys. There seems to be major confusion regarding the naming conventions around the Windows 8 retail boxes. Hacking out an article about it now after asking Microsoft SA's Windows lead about it.

It'll probably only run in the morning after an editor has had a chance to look at it, though.

There's no confusion about Microsoft's naming conventions, there's major confusion about the mixed answers Groupon is giving out. They just need to give a "yes/no" if it's an upgrade version or not.

Go to ANY other retailer site - Microsoft, amazon, incredible connection, esquire - it's really simple, they say if it's upgrade or System Builder. Not really rocket science. Groupon are just being evasive cos they've sold hundreds of people the wrong thing.

Whats strange is that the orginal link says nonthing about upgrade or system builder, finding the deal though under "Pretoria" it clearly says that it is an upgrade which needs Windows XP, Vista etc.

Retail licenses no longer exist, so Groupon is selling either the System Builder license (aka old DSP) or upgrade.

They most certainly exist - it's what you get if you use MSDN or TechNet. And my mate says they gave away retail licenses at the launch tonight. The big question is, did Groupon do a deal with MS to put retail licenses into this special offer? Time will tell, and I'm really happy about the 7-day return policy, so it doesn't REALLY matter if it's only an upgrade :)

Edit: From the post above, I see it's not. Will try and cancel before they send me my copy :)

Yes - I kept a page capture of the original page if anyone needs it as proof.

Cancelling, putting the lying, thieving, baiting and switching con artists in my spam folder.

I see Groupon has changed their add - it now includes the words " This is for an upgrade and you will need either Windows 7, Vista or XP to upgrade"

I think this clears it up - Groupon once again sold us @D$%#%$

I hope MyBB learns from this and stops giving exposure to these scammers.

I just got an email from groupon saying that their version is only the upgrade and its 64-bit only.

When I finally got round to order last night the deal were closed. So very glad I did not get my order in now!
Regarding the 70% discount that seems to be a scam as well... Retail of an upgrade should not be R2000 ever...

Funny - the sales person I spoke to pulled up the spec sheet they were sent and it sounded like it clearly read that there are both 32 and 64 bit installs available. They don't have a clue what they're talking about and would do well to send a rep to these boards to sort out the issue once & for all. I don't mind mistakes, but this blatant trickery and beating about the bush is bollocks.

Yeah its typical of terrible communication. I have just received another mail from them with pretty much the same copy pasted answer.

Thank you for your email and continued support.
Please be advised the above mentioned deal is a upgrade version and is 64 bit.

Groupon South Africa Hi Groupies, the Microsoft Windows 8 release is only the upgrade version, which is the only version that Microsoft has released as of yet. if you have machines running previous versions of Microsoft Windows. The Groupon Mothership.

So where is the best place to get (physically or electronically) Win8 retail version?

So I got my copy from IC right now and there's 32 and 64 bit versions in the box.
