Windows 8 upgrade version conundrum

I wonder if I am getting it cheaper than most. I installed Win8 consumer preview. Now I just purchased win8 pro and got a product key without having a paid for version of windows. Its busy downloading but the purchase went through. Not sure if it will bum out later though.

It can take a few minutes, just be patient. It took like 1-2 minutes on my ssd, and I didn't even have that much installed.

It's been going for an hour now. I'm gonna try give it a few more minutes. I suspect a driver issue of sorts?

EDIT: Found the issue. Was the bluetooth driver. Disabled it. Then it worked fine. If this helps anyone or if anyone cares. :D

Might be slightly off topic but im struggling with some of the apps not starting to download. Its just says pending. Just bought another copy for my brother and it seems he has no issues on his side. Any ideas?

Got it to work by setting it to xp compatibility. Downloading now :D Does any one know if this 15$ version lets you upgrade your computer?

bwahahahahaha, oh god that's hilarious!

*climbs back into chair*

So it seems its one problem after the next. :(

After putting in my CC details, the payment went through and R350 were debited from my account. However, a message came up saying that my details could not be validated. Now i sit with no Windows 8 and less R350!

Sigh. Does anyone know how to contact Microsoft via phone or email or web ticket?

Confirmation That The $39.95 Windows 8 Upgrade Can Be Clean-Installed
For those that care or wondered if you can 'Clean-Install' the Upgrade, I can confirm that yes you can. I've been running the RP and for $39.95 and after some research decided to take the gamble. I did see some other discussion, including getting the $14.95 Promo for a Win 7 machine purchase, which I did Bonus ! and here's what I did and it was very easy !

1.) Go to Windows 8 site for the $39.95 Upgrade and start the 'Upgrade Advisor' that begins the purchase process.

2.) The advisor checks your rig for compatibility, and I assume it checks if you are running a valid Windows Copy, then gives you a report on
your devices compatibility. Also I assume it checks if your running a 32 or 64 bit os.

3.) Complete the purchase process, entering the promo code if applicable, pay and the download begins. also it sends you an email with the
Product Key.

4.) When the download completes you have the option to go ahead and run the 'Upgrade' or 'Burn the .iso to Media' choose this and burn an
install disc. Also it shows your Product Key here too.

5.) Restart your PC, set your boot to dvd drive, insert your Win 8 disc and your off ! You will get the usual 'Accept License' screen and then the
'Install Now' screen, hit that and you will enter your Product Key next.

6.) The next screen is where you choose 'Custom Installation' and click 'Advanced Drive Options' to delete any existing partitions. From this
point your drive is 'Clean' just unallocated space that you can make a partition if you want.

7.) Highlight where you want to install windows and the rest is history, it auto-completes, you run some initial set-up and you have a fully
activated copy of Windows 8 Pro !!

Aaah, so my having a not completely installed XP then booting the CD and nuking the partition was the trick. Nice!

Guys you gotta love it.

M$'s strict DRM/licenses and all their misinformation. Ppl have easily jinxed the upgrade clean install method, people have faked the discount coupon and everything, it's really quite spectacular. :D

I've already noted this on myg and myb... behind people ;)

What I did:
1. use upgrade adviser
2. buy and note down key
3. exit adviser (I already had a win 8 pro iso)
4. make bootable usb from windows 8 pro iso
5. boot from usb
6. insert key and custom install

done. not so hard. easy.

It really is a nice feeling that I just got a full copy of windows 8 for R130. I see retail stores are selling them for R1.6K! First time i've ever bought an OS.

Nah, not actually. I bought it out of my erm "donated" copy of Windows 7 for R136. :)

How did you find out what was causing it? Mines been running for about 20 mins. :(

Update: It took 21 mins :)

R135 - what a bargain - from a um flaky version of Win7.

R135 for Windows 8 Pro? Now this is more like it. Getting it now before MS pulls the plug.

I installed my Windows 8 and kept all my files and programs etc! Seems to work but it seems a bit sluggish!

I have a 550mb/s SSD and I dont get the 8 second boot time they suggest! So on Monday I will get my newly ordered 16GB Corsair Vengeance and after I install those I will format and clean install my Windows 8

I'm on an i7 2600k, 16GB ram, Vertex 4 and I'm not sure what my bootup time is but it's very, very fast. I have noticed the Anti Malware service (Windows Defender) sometimes eats a fair bit of CPU though.
