Weird incident - anyone experienced anything similar ?

We had 4 different clients call us early today - some on terminal server, some with standalone workstations, where they were unable to log onto their local profile and receiving an error message

Windows Cannot Load the Locally Stored Profile

The only common thread ( apart from them being our clients ) is they all have the same management software app installed.

However, 30 other servers and a few hundred workstations also loaded with the management software had no issues.

I have seen one or two cases of this over the years, but four on the same day makes me curious - and suspicious.

Any ideas ?

A client of mine had the same problem last week monday on his laptop. It happened to him last year sometime as well.

Logged into safe mode, did a restore to a recent date, cleaned temp folder etc (CCleaner), Windows update.

He hasn't called back so I suppose it's still working.

Which operating system is this related to?

Across the board - XP, server 2003, Win7.

I've just received a mail from the managemt software co -

This issue seems like a global issue at this time as many have received many support requests to our Service Desk and the NOC. Our best Server Experts are reviewing the issue. We are trying to identify the root cause of this.

Let's see what they find.
