Refuse to see what gary? The pc market in decline, i know it is wasn't what you want and windows 8 is not the cause but don't make out like i am blind. I have given you facts and figures. The blind one here is you.

read that article and explain to me why apple are seeing a decline in their pc sales as well, apple does not run windows 8 so WTF are apple also suffering? well they are not suffering because the ipad is absolutely raking in the cash for them.

Nerf windows 8 was never going revive the pc industry, some thought it might but it can't revive an industry in decline. If microsoft released the best OS ever it would not help sales or revive the industry. Read the article i posted, i know gary and kingrob are upset to find out windows 8 is not the reason pc sales and apple pc sales are in decline.

Windows 8 could possibly have helped sales a bit better but tablets and smart phones are the main driving force behind the decline of the pc sale. pc sales were in decline prior to windows 8 as gary pointed out and with tablets being able to replace the pc it is obvious pc sales will be in decline.

Imagine what could have been if Windows8 wasn't such a disaster. It's a real pity. All these hybrid devices were so promising at one point and I think still could be.

Its the year of the Linux desktop...

and people notice the speed increase when they hop over so much that they recon they do not need new PC's :D

Well that is a prediction for the next 3 years.

Some of that decline will be made up by the faster growth in "ultramobiles," the new breed of Windows 8 devices such as Microsoft Surface Pro. But the PC decline is permanent, reflecting a "long-term change in user behavior," according to the Gartner statement.

Spot on, blaming windows 8 for the decline is just utter rubbish, sounds like people hate windows 8 so much they are actually willing to believe windows 8 is the reason pc sales will decline.

Kingrob i am many things but a troll i am not. Where is your argument now, experts back in 2011 saw the decline of the pc, experts in 2013 see it declining even further yet you and gary believe windows 8 is the sole reason behind it even when windows 8 was not even in testing :D gary stated the pc sales were in decline before windows 8 yet he believes windows 8 is now the reason the sales are in decline :eek:

Tablet sales are the reason that Windows took a new direction to stem the decline that began to set in. Nobody disputes that. Quit harping on it. What's emerging though is evidence that Windows8 has failed to stem it, and may actually have accelerated the desertion that's happening. Instead of providing a legitimate tablet alternative it's confused and alienated the public. That is at least what the numbers suggest.

That article sums up the windows 8 problem pretty well. It basically says windows 8 has arrived late and can't play catch up. Apple is already on the 3rd or 4th generation of their tablet while microsoft has only recently released an OS and tablet. Andoird tablets are also massive, windows 8 comes is released and now they trying to play with the big boys and they expect to be able to boost sales in a few months?

Microsoft cocked up big time when they didn't react to the ipad or took too long to react. Now they are trying to enter a market late in the game and people are expecting sales to be boosted?

^ This. Microsoft's answer to the decline worsened it... for now, but they made a move towards the future and they are in the right place to make this change now while they still have the office's around the world in a titan grip any later and they could have failed as a company.

This move now might look bad but if you look at the future plan its something that needed to be done, and 5 years from now they gonna be laughing all the way to the bank again.

Yup that is the way i see it, for now though microsoft will have to accept it brought the OS in late, so they will slowly need to get it going again, they also need to lower the pricing on their touch devices to be able to compete.

my sister is loving her touch screen laptop, acer s7 i7 edition. 20k but it's a beast. Windows 8 touch is simply stunning. Windows 8 has not failed, it hasn't been able to stop the decline but as alpha says give it sometime and we will see who is loading their pockets with money again, right now it's apple though :D.

They had to get something out and they have got something but some like it and some don't. They were never going to succeed with windows 8 over night, play the long game is what they will have to do for now.

Sorry, but that is merely your opinion.

My opinion is that Metro/Modern UI was a desperate attempt to differentiate windows mobile from Android which clearly squatted on the moble UI path that MS would have gone down.

Windows 8 only exists because android exists, without Android Windows Mobile 6 would have morphed into something like Jelly Bean.

Strangely enough the Iphone is the catalyst in all this. MS blinked when Apple released it, Google (and it's mobile partners) leaped.

Ballmer actually sneered when the iPhone was shown, and sneered again when the iPad was released. That arrogance cost them the market and it's ... well I don't know if it's irreversible, but it's very late now. Even if Windows 8 was brilliant, it would be late. They clearly did have some vision of smartphones and tablets from a long time ago but they never delivered, they underestimated the consumer appetite and they refused to let go of their deathgrip on the Win32 desktop.

It's possible that having tried to push smartphones and tablets in the early Windows XP era, they couldn't conceive of someone else succeding where they had failed.

Flat profits in a declining market is a good sign not a bad one. Bad news would be releasing the OS and seeing it go below the flat line, they are bucking the trend in a way. So it looks more likely they could be helping the market right now as it was in rapid decline prior to windows 8 being released. (as gary mentioned)

Windows sales were essentially flat -- that's pretty good in a PC market that is in rapid decline.

someone mentioned android but android would be nothing without apple, apple started all of this. Android just jumped on the wagon which is great but the wagon left microsoft behind.

I used and maintained some Asus Origami devices a few years ago, they were too bulky and the screens didn't take much use, however there was nothing fundementally wrong with the way XP had been adapted for stylus use (Essentially the same as WM6).

My view at the time was that the form factor was the stumbling block, They needed to be thinner, with longer lasting screens and better battery life.

I would use the same OS today if someone put it into an Atom powered tablet.
 
I personally HATE Windows 8!
I got it on my laptop and the first thing I did was reload 7 on the laptop!
My girlfriend has the exact same laptop and she is happy with 8 but I love how she struggles sometimes.
