The Apple, then put windows on it, presuming the hardware is better than that of the windows machine

Lets see:
Top of the range gaming notebook or pleb-tier Macbook pro that can't do anything more than my current 2012 model.

I have both Apple Macbook Pro and Windows PC (an old one)
For free I would choose a high-end Windows Laptop
Why? I find it less confusing to use Windows, Apple frustrates the life out of me

Realistically I'd take the Mac as it's worth more than a similarly specced Windows laptop - then would sell it and buy a Windows laptop.

If however there was no option to sell them then I would grab a Windows laptop as I wouldn't mind a mobile gaming capable system with a GTX 1070/1080.

Windows laptop, but should have chosen Macbook to sell and then buy windows laptop which is much better IMHO

Macbook Pro.

Most toys I already own are from apple and it all works well in its little walled garden ecosystem.

Windows as this is what I mainly use. I also have the previous MBP and love it, but I hate the limited ports on the new model and really think that Apple lost their way!

I am already geared for windows and once you start with apple they suck you in as apple integrates well with other apple and nothing else. Seen many people start purchasing apple products and slowly swithching everything over without realizing they are paying significantly more for their tech products by doing so. While apple products I do admit tend to be better quality than the equivelant Android/windows product they only cater for the high end market and their products tend to be a lot more expensive than the competition. So for me its the choice between paying R10K for the A+ product or R3K for the B+ product. To get that extra 10% is not worth doubling or even trippling the price.

Macbook Pro. I love the form factor and the build quality. The retina display is amazing and the battery life is really quite unsurpassed. I use a 2015 MBP 15" retina with 512GB SSD and the speed is fantastic. I have spent thousands on SSD modules for other Windows laptops I have and still cannot get the boot and operating speeds of the MBP. I use Microsoft Office and Adobe CC apps on all my machines and the MBP is much faster.

I have not yet found any Windows laptop that comes close with regards to these aspects.

I do think Apple products are WAY overpriced and would never use an Apple iPhone or iPad. I stick to Samsung for those.
