Windows Phone 8 unveiled

Ag no man ... what is it with you guys with all this positive crap this morning?
 
It does seem that no current phones will be getting WP8, purely due to the fact that its uses the same core code as Windows 8.. therefore a derivative of Windows NT whereas WP7.5 was a derivative of Windows CE.

This is more than somewhat disappointing, but I think its a move that unfortunately had to be made.

I'm a big fan of what Microsoft are doing. I've recently gone the Mac-iPhone route, but I won't lie...Microsoft are tempting me. Thankfully by the time my upgrade is due I'll have had a chance to fool around with the final release of Windows 8 (been using the Developer Preview since last year) and will have had a chance to play around with Windows Phone 8 as well.
 
Nice interesting times ahead......looks good so far so good lets hope they can pull development clout as thats whats going to be needed for me to go full on wp8,i love wp7.5 just the lack of apps pulled me away...i couldnt even get opera mini on my lumia 800

Because its not out yet to truly see what the negative crap really is.

I do have concerns but thats just it, its personal views that might or might not become a big issue later on.
  • Its no secret that Microsoft will remove/or has removed loads of freedom like customization and direct file access.
  • The limiting/banning of Open Source applications is another concern for the future of both my company and GPL applications like VLC
  • Another is even with the UI giving you the feeling of custom design on the home screen it really is not customization as its just color and arrangement of the same thing.
  • Windows 8's core also relies heavily on Secure boot so you not going to hack this puppy (Both a pro and a con at the same time)
  • The uniformity of the UI is a pro as everything looks part of the OS and a con as everything looks the same (Need to focus to know where you are)

I am sure there will be others but as I pointed out, until its in your hand and get to use it for a month or more you can not truly say if it sucks or rocks.

I wonder how energy efficient this will be. Windows 8 has seemed a bit heavy on my netbook. With the constant need for internet access to update all the tiles it could kill battery and data. The metro ui is great and I think a large part of it's success will be if Nokia and others can bring out phones to rival the specs of your iPhones and high-end Droids.

Then we have a winner.So it's a Windows 8 PC,Windows 8 laptop,Windows 8 tablet, Xbox 360 and.........Android phone for me then(hell, can't part with me Android phone.).In the famous words of Charlton Heston "I'll give you my Android when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!" .
