No other apps that i normally use is available, but only real one which is kind of an issue is ABSA and of course a decent browser.

Have you tried UC Browser?
Also yes ABSA is friggen slow... however I believe they were just as slow when it came to their Android App? No?

Have tried UC browser yes, suppose its better than nothing (including IE)

Absa slow?, where did you find the app?

I'm trying out Opera but it's working even worse than IE which is unfortunate.

No need for Google Maps (although the app gMaps would be your best bet), as the HERE Maps app is excellent in SA. Would also recommend using OneNote which comes preinstalled, as you can easily sync it with your desktop app as well as access it online. WhatsApp is adequate. Skype is terrible :(. Others (depending on your needs):

Fitbit
Office Lens
Office Remote
Remote Desktop
Phonly (Feedly client)
Pouch (Pocket client)
Flipboard
Zomato
Wunderlist
Authenticator (Microsoft)
Blink
Slowly
TubeCast (Youtube)
Lumia camera apps - Cinemagraph, Panaroma, Refocus, Selfie, Storyteller, Creative Studio
Realarm

If the stock email app is not enough you can try MetroMail or 1Mail. Others:
Metrotube/myTube (you tube)
Sticky Notes HD.
UC Browser
Poki (pocket)
Oh and last but not least, WPCentral to always keep you in the loop.
I literally scanned through your OP so no wonder I initially didn't answer your question at all. Sorry about that.

Never using Google Maps again ever since my brother and I were 400 km from home and its telling us "turn right" where there's no road at all. Thank God for Here Maps.

Here Maps all the way! A major advantage is that it uses off-line maps with voice guidance, no data usage. Goggle Maps uses data.

Vodacom App (if using Vodacom)
Evernote

My Talking Tom ;)
4Cast Daily
My Family
Smart Player
Photosynth
TuneIn Radio
